There should be a tab called “Infractions” on your profile page, but that only appears if you have warnings.
Ah, thanks.
Can someone explain to me why someone who is not in the habit of collecting warnings, and thereby nearing expulsion, cares at all that they have collected one bullshit bad call warning? Or even one that is deserved? Upset that your permanent record is now scarred?
Why does it matter?
Bad call and the impact on you is? The harm done is … what?
I’ve one other warning, for a vague insult in ATMB, and since they’re permanent, would rather not have it stick. I’d also like the moderators to maintain consistency in their rulings, so that we might be able to know where the vague definition of things like “don’t be a jerk” and “predict when I’m posting as a moderator and when I’m posting as a regular poster are when I don’t slap a [moderator hat on] tag in there”.
It ruins your record. I mean, who doesn’t want a perfect record, right? I know it doesn’t have much of an impact on anything unless you start getting many warnings, but I remembered that a moderator once said, “Most users have no warnings.” So getting a warning puts you in a minority group. Also, it brings you a step closer to suspension/banishment.
Aren’t we encountering multiple hijacks on a thread about hijacking? I take it the mods have decided to give it a rest this time- good for them!
Anti-hijack rules are stupid anyway and should be abolished. They do nothing so much as provide opportunity for inept and despotic moderation. Who cares if people go off on a tangent? Anyone who wants to follow the theme of the OP can pick it out from the tangents with minimal effort, and I speak from plenty of experience at sites where there were zero anti-hijack rules.
I get the desire for fair moderation and consistency. And obviously a mod should be very careful to make it explicit when they are speaking as a mod and when as a poster and whether the direction is to the specific individual or an instruction to all. But Munch so you’ve two warnings. And? You are not a jerk poster or a troll and these sorts of warnings are not about to add up at any point to establishing a record that warrants banning. OTOH, and this is for you AU, the powers that be can ban you at any point they desire. From the service agreement in FAQs:
Warnings? They don’t need no stinkin’ warnings.
So sure, many who have collected multiple warnings have done so because they are jerks and/or trolls, and they are being given chances, many chances, to change their ways. Maybe one or two actually have. And some who have a warning or two have gotten them due to mod capriciousness, or for minor offenses, and mostly try to follow the rules and to respect mod instructions when they are understandable. If you are the latter, and we every reason to believe you are, then a warning here or there causes you no harm. You are not going to be banned for a bad mod call or two. Even if you also have one or two warnings that were deserved.
No reason to be anything other than calm. It doesn’t matter.
Nothing that happens on a message board matters. Within the system of the board though, it’s perfectly valid for people to protest unfair and/or inept moderation. If you want to point out how cosmically irrelevant this is…thanks?
