Let's do the 30 Day Song Challenge. For everyone who does every day with me, I'll Paypal a dollar.

I love these threads because I like finding new music and hate these threads because I spend so much time on them!

My tastes are all over the place with not a lot of depth, but I do always come back to classic rock. This is an old song by REO Speedwagon that has gotten me through some bad, bad crap. Excuse the extreme close-ups.

Roll With The Changes

(That guitarist and guitar, OMG. The good old days before Cronin started writing for 12-year-old girls and forced Richrath out of the group :frowning: )

How can I pick a favorite?

So much good music out there, however this has been my current ear worm and I have no idea why. It’s not my current mood.
I think I was in 5th or 6th grade when it came out and a classmate suggested I listen to it.

Be prepared if I continue to participate - I have some weird ass taste in music.

A 30-day obligation will be tough to fulfill but I’ll do my part as much as possible. To start, the swingy syncopation of ragtime has made me giddy at times, so here’s an orchestral version of Maple Leaf Rag by Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks that was used in Boardwalk Empire.

My favorite song of all time is Led Zeppelin - Achilles Last Stand. It was not a song that stood out for me all that much in the Zep discography until I did some traveling and came to understand the whole “travel as a journey of self-discovery” thing. Jimmy Page’s lonely-sounding guitar solo is probably my favorite of his, and this song also has my favorite drumming performance of all time - Bonzo does various fills at unpredictable times to keep things interesting over all 10 minutes while never overplaying.

Dang, hard to pick a favorite from hundreds of ‘absolute favorites’ so perhaps it’s best to pick ones that should be heard (and appreciated) by a wider audience. I’m already learning - never heard a Nick Cave song till minutes ago. ‘Tupelo’ - just wow!

So here’s one among equals for your predilection - - YouTube

Elvis is my favorite songwriter, so I’ll be dipping into that well too. Brilliant Mistake = great choice.

Day 2: I’m going to offer up a lesser-known Bob Dylan song that has so many nooks & crannies that I never tire of it: Thunder on the Mountain

(you are better off closing your eyes and just listening. I hate when the video posted is just random concert footage that has nothing to do with the accompanying song).

Also…I thought there would be a new thread started each day for the challenge?
mmm

OK, I will submit a few, I will not get through it all though.

This is one to make you think about your own future - don’t forget, you’ll get old too and you’ll appreciate a kind word when that day comes, so do it for someone today.

I'll put something up a bit more lively later on.

Haven’t figured out how to set up a link on an I-pad…sorry, but if I have to pick one song as my all time favorite, for many reasons, it’s Bowie’s All The Young Dudes beautifully performed by Mott the Hoople.

Here.

4 April, 7:08pm my time.
Learn To Fly (Foo Fighters cover) performed by 1,000 musicians.

Not bad, but I’d pick Gary Moore doing Still Got The Blues For You.

I also like This version of Born to Run.

It was Christmas 1967 and I was 9 years old. Best Christmas ever. I received two life-changing gifts that year - the Tolkien trilogy and a copy of “Rubber Soul” (Beatles). During Christmas vacay, I enjoyed both simultaneously, nearly non-stop. So to me, Rubber Soul will always be the soundtrack for Middle Earth. And it was this song that wrapped the whole experience up for me. Still love it, and although I listen to it with a wider perspective these days, it speaks to me just as it did then.

Possibly the heaviest heavy rock song of all time, play very loud

Edgar Winter Group - Frankenstein

My favorite new song of 2015 was Florence + the Machine’s “Ship to Wreck”. Enjoy.

Ace

The Big Sleep

Son of a Bitch

I’ve edited in the date and time, like you asked.

When’s the next thread?

Thanks! And since it’s tomorrow here, I’m offering up #3: Elephant by Tame Impala.
Linky.
