Oregon is paying a bounty for every invasive pikeminnow caught by anglers. They start at $6 each, then pay $8 after you catch 25, and $10 after the first 200. The leader has made over $107,000 for catching 10755 fish. Damn! Beck, do you have a pikeminnow recipe?
How much does it cost to raise/breed pikeminnow in captivity? Asking for a friend.
My fish love runs more the Catfish variety.
But I’ll work on it.
Just think of the size fish you could catch with a giant minnow on the hook!
I’m in.
You get a line and I’ll get a pole, Honey.
mmm
I’m all for this. I really don’t like invasive species.
Similar program in WA as well:
Here fishy, fishy fishy!!

There’s a saying that your worst day fishing is better than your best day working. If I can make $100 Gs fishing over a 5 month period, hells yeah I want to move to Oregon and start castin’!
Yeah, pikeminnow is a weird oxymoron name. I bet they are almost as tasty as a big plate of jumboshrimp.
Most of these folks are fishing from >$50K boats and I’m sure the fuel to get them in and out of the water, or leave them in the marina, plus all the expensive boat fuel leaves you…hold on one second…carry the one…about $10 in profit for the year
How are your kayak fishing skills?
This is asking for Otis from the Andy Griffith show paddling out with dynamite and raking in the fish and the big $$$.
Maybe, but those folk actually end up even after a wildly expensive hobby spree, unlike the rest of us. Or, not losing money on a hobby is a winning proposition.
I do own a fishing kayak and take it out often in the warmer months.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t translate to my basic fishing skills being very good.
I was saying that jokingly. These folks have actually figured out how to make a hobby pay. May not be much at the end of the day, but it’s more than most. No one will ever pay me a dime to hear me play music on the expensive instruments I’ve purchased.
My friend has one of these that I’d like to try. Seems like a very relaxing activity.
A Google search suggests pikeminnows are considered a “trash fish” and not suitable for human consumption. So what do you do with them after they’re caught? Turn them into cat food?
I believe the agencies turn the fish over to meat rendering companies. I’m not sure what they do with them but figured it might be something like fish fertilizer. Cat food could be an option.
are you indian or just a pervert?

I’m curious about using the term invasive to describe Northern pikeminnows. All the articles I find about them say they are a native species. Invasive is usually defined as animals or plants from another region of the world that don’t belong in a new place where they thrive.
Sure, I get that everyone would rather have more salmon, and pikeminnows are depleting the salmon stocks, but that’s just one native species being more successful than another native species. Salmon stocks have been reduced mostly by human intervention, and the aggressive, not-sought-after pikeminnows are taking over.
I guess I’m being pedantic about the word invasive, but they should call the been-there-forever pikeminnows something else.
