"Let's go to San Francisco. . . ."

I wish.

Actually that is the only line in a song that I know only from its inclusion in one of the *“Stars on 45” medleys of the early 1980s.

I’m reasonably sure its not Scott McKenzie’s (after whom actress McKenzie Phillips was named) “San Francisco” song.

*If you’re not familiar with the “Stars on 45” medleys, they were a studio group out of The Netherlands, I believe. They released a series of 45’s and LP’s which just contained medleys along different themes. A whole “song” was just a line or two from a dozen or so other songs that had something in common. One was a medley of “intros.” Another was a medley of Stevie Wonder songs. I believe their Beatles medley was a million seller in the States. They tried to be faithful the sound of the original songs (regardless of the artist), and were reasonably close.

I’m game. Actually, I am moving relatively close to San Francisco in mere weeks.
I’ll be sure to wear some flowers in my hair.

You are quite correct.

Things I like about San Francisco.
By: SwimmingRiddles

1.) The BART. I enjoy that it is named BART. Makes it seem more human. “Damn, the BART is late again…”

2.) The fact that the average temperature is something like 72 degrees. I could be wrong on that though. Regardless, it’s warmer than the tundra I call home.

3.) Cool vibe, man.

4.) There is a Ben & Jerry’s at the corner of Haight and Ashbury. That amused me to no end.

5.) There is a store on the Castro called Fairy Queen. That amused me to no end.

6.) The bad neighborhoods SOUND like bad neighborhoods. Like Tenderloin. Yep, sounds seedy.

Things I Do NOT like about San Francisco:

1.) It is easier to get OFF the freeway than ON the freeway. (that goes for any city, though. The lesson was learned in San Fran, though.)

2.) Parking bites.

3.) Cost of living is way high.

4.) I HATE Rice-o-roni. Blech.

This concludes my lists of likes and dislikes about San Francisco. Thank you.

Oh, forgot to mention:

I’m trying to find the original artist and song title.

SwimmingRiddles -
but you can only get B&J factory seconds back in the tundra. if the buyout gets rid of factory seconds, i’m going to be damn pissed.

oh, and the BART sucks. fine to get from point A to point B, but they left out a hell of a lot of point C’s, like the other side of the bay.

Swimming, The weather in the SF area is best discribed as varied. If you don’t like the weather don’t wait, cause it won’t change…unless you walk a few feet. Go a mile or so an any direction and the weather changes. (It becomes wet if you go west far enough. )

Yeah, maybe for about ten days in early autumn.

Hate to burst bubbles on this, but SF’s weather is considerably less pleasant than most people think. It’s never REALLY hot, and it’s rarely REALLY cold, but it’s usually just cold enough to be uncomfortable. And no matter how warm it is during the day, it’s always chilly at night.

Oh, and sorry, Mjollnir, I have no idea.

Whoohoo! Welcome, Psycat!

When’s the party?

Not as bad as most metro cities though. (especially New York! : :Ducking:

The weather is not always chilly at night, depending on what you think cold is. Haven’t you ever heard the song, “On a warm San Francisco Night”? Is that the name of it? Bah, I couldn’t find yearly averages, but here are monthly averages for San Fran.

OP: Did you ever hear “Polkas on 45” by Weird Al? I’m not a big fan, but this was amusing. I think it is on his “In 3D” album.

I have chainmail underwear.

Uhh, when isn’t the party?

Come on by this summer Kyla, we’re sure to be barbecuing and having some beers on the deck at any given moment. If no one answers, come around the back.

I have chainmail underwear.

Oddly enough, I just happened to bring the Forrest Gump soundtract to work today.

According to the liner notes, the title is:
San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)
Written by John Phillips, and performed by Scott McKenzie.

Hope that this wasn’t useless for you! If it is, blame Epic Soundtrax.

The more I teaches you, the dumber you gets.

Hmmmmm…

John McKenzie…
Scott Philips…

McKenzie Philips?

After a little searching, [url=http://www.totalrecall.de/artists/702.htm]this is the closest I could come up with. Looks like you can order them still from this site. (If you save up your deutchmarks)

Christ, let’s try that again:

this better work

I lived in SF for 12 years in the 80’s ('78-'91). Love the place, but it’s expensive to raise children there so I moved to Denver.

I’m going to be in SF in early August to see some friends. Love to go back and visit.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

I was born 30 miles South…always found it pretty amusing. Temp average is about right, but damp alot. And BART does go to the other side of the bay…all the way to Livermore. Way fun to visit, but.well, you know the rest.

Always remember that you are unique, just like everybody else.

I’d like to formally invite y’all to my place in San Jose! We get better weather down here in the Valley! Bring the kids and the dog (my toddler loves kids and dogs), we’ll have a ‘Welcome to the West’ BBQ! Kyla, you come too!

Screw it. I might as well throw a Doper soiree at Sue’s house. It would be a nice half-way point…we might even get Handy to come!

How’s the end of June? If you all are up for it, I’ll post a formal notice. Let me know.

Better weather in San Jose? I don’t think so. Give me my fog and wind anyday. I live on Treasure Island and just love watching the fog roll in through the Gate. Also BART may go to the east bay, but it doesn’t run when you need it. WHERE ARE THOSE 3AM TRAINS? :frowning:
