Let's Pit the DEA...one more time. (RO)

Well, he deserves to be compensated for four days of thinking he was going to die in there.

Not sure what a fair number is, but it’s more than $10,000.

The amount they put in the claim is just a cap, to give the government some idea of what is at stake. It’s a silly requirement, as there is no downside to simply putting $100 million (or $20 million) in every claim. My guess is he’d get less from a jury, and would settle for less in they offer something substantial.

What would you suggest?

Apparently (inferring from the posts) the answer is yes.

If there’s a protracted discussion about the laws of physics, handcuffs, impossibility of scratching yourself, and paper towel rolls, I’m out of here.

Allowing Mr. Chong to absorb the lessons he learned in his five-day master class upon the maxim “I fought the law and the law won.”

A thorough investigation leading to disciplinary action and system reforms, if it is determined they are necessary.

Throwing millions of taxpayer dollars at a criminal loser will accomplish nothing.

Worried poor Mr. Chong’s allegations won’t stand up to scrutiny?

Quarantine?

I’m pretty dumb. But it’s good to know that I am not the dumbest person on the internet. Thanks Kimmy.

Well, technically, losing a lawsuit is not so much throwing money at someone, as they are dragging it out of you. It is not optional.

Never been handcuffed? Or handcuffed someone (i’ve done both).

If it’s the common, non-hinged kind of cuffs (the ones with a chain) then they pivot so you can have your hands either both going the same direction, or opposite directions at will. So with your hands going the opposite direction each hand has access to the opposing arm. It doesn’t take a contortionist, just a normal person.

Note to self: Don’t search for “handcuffed” on google images with safe search turned off.

Jesus Titty-Fucking Christ, they almost killed him! He wasn’t even accused of anything, let alone convicted. I don’t give a fuck if you’re caught selling crack to the mayor’s daughter, you don’t deserve to be thrown in a cell without food and water for four days. He has a basic human right to be treated humanely while imprisoned, since the DEA violated that right then they need to make him whole. And if that offends your holier than thou morals, too fucking bad! Grow up!

Not really. The DEA is, at their own word, reviewing exactly what happened.

I’m trying to figure out where the idea that his allegations are even controversial is coming from.

Nobody’s claiming Chong is a saint, but painting him as some kind of mastermind behind a plot to … I’m not sure boggles the mind. Especially since the DEA, at their own word, released the guy and never charged him with anything.

Five, sir. (According to the things I’ve been seeing on CNN).

Sorry about the error. Multiply my outrage by 5/4.

You didn’t read anything, or you would know that no story has ever said he was free to go. In fact, today the AP is reporting:

He was never “free to go”, as you claimed.

Except you had no facts that backed up any of your “inferences”. You should have just said “Nothing I wrote was intended to be a factual statement.”

So you think your “inferences” were reasonable?

Wow. You’re still making this claim? Based on what information? So far you’ve presented nothing to back this up.

Twice in one post you make the claim that this was deliberate behavior on the part of Chong. You ascribe fault to him for his being locked in that cell, but thus far you have shown us no information that would allow anyone to reasonably conclude that your version of events is anything close to an accurate description of reality.

….and you evidence for Mr. Chong being a criminal is…? What crimes has he been convicted of?

I presume you have a similar set of facts that show he is a “loser”; i.e. none at all.

I’ve got nothing whatsoever at stake here, but having read Kimmy Gibbler’s utterly absurd claims regarding this case, if he/she actually is an attorney, I wouldn’t hire him/her as my advocate at any price.

No, you’re not “only tolerated”, you’re held in a vague “Wait…hasn’t he been banned yet?” sort of contempt.
