well, what do you expect? the guy is at least 75 (“according to my 75 years of observation…”). If I owned my house, were living comfortably on my pension + SS + medicare, I think I would find it amusing too. Plus, America’s savings rate is embarrassing. This is merely a case of the Ant gloating to the Grasshopper. I don’t necessarily agree with his use of the terms “liberal” and “conservative”, but that’s a whole nuther kettle of fish.
Bosca, when was this published? I’d swear I saw it in the Memphis [del]Comical Apple[/del] Commercial Appeal about 6 weeks back
If that particular letter to the editor agitates you enough to start a Pit thread, then I can only think of three possibilities:
You have never looked at the “Letters to the Editor” page of a newspaper before;
You are a professional economist;
The Rutherford County Daily News Journal normally has a much more erudite and mannered quality of letter-writer than my local paper; and you are concerned that this extraordinarily substandard letter falsely characterizes the typically elevated intellectual discourse of Rutherford County.
What gives? If a shaky grasp of world affairs is to be your yardstick for a Pit thread, then get ready to pit 99.999997% of every letter to the editor ever published anywhere. Step away from the edge of the abyss, my friend.
That letter is only mildly asinine compared to the ones in my local paper. I did find the comment about George Soros, a liberal, being able to buy everyone else out fairly amusing though.
How long before conservatives place George W. Bush in the rogue’s gallery of liberals?
It has already happened (Cite).
