Lex Luthor question

How come he never appeared in the original “Adventures of Superman”?

I mean, he was around in the comics at the time; but for the most part, all we got was Supes dodging empty gangster’s guns.
Well, every once in a while, we did see a criminal scientist, so why not Lex?

Don’t know. It’s more surprising when you consider that Luthor already had appeared as Superman’s nemesis in the serial Atom Man Vs. Superman

Maybe they figured that the TV-watching public wouldn’t accept a bald super-genius.

Generally there wasn’t a lot of gadgetry in the old SUperman TV show, with is Lex’s metier. Superman was more of a Dick Tracy who could take a bullet than the planet-juggling powerhouse of the comics of the time, I assume because the technology of the time and the show’s budget simply didn’t allow for the kinds of effects that such gadgetry would have required.
