Does anyone know if it is strange truth or urban legend that Liberace had so many facelifts he was incapable of closing his eyes and therefore had to have a servant put eyedrops in his eyes every two hours when he was sleeping?
As far as I can tell, the story comes from Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace, the 1988 autobiography of Liberace’s partner Scott Thorson. Thorson writes that Liberace did indeed have problems closing his eyes after his second facelift, and had to sleep with them slightly open. This anecdote is dramatized (to great comedic effect) in the 2013 film adaptation with Matt Damon and Michael Douglas.
