Liberal ideologists, suppressors of dissent?

A point that should be made about the Fairness Doctrine is that it wouldn’t have much power anymore anyway. The FCC only has jurisdiction over broadcast airwaves, so a return of the FD would have no effect on cable, or over the internet or over satellite radio. There would be no point in bringing it back.

Echo! Echo! Echo!

Ok, but it still doesn’t appear that Obama has expressed any desire to pursue them. The EFCA is exactly the kind of middle stance Obama typically takes.

You guys are misunderstanding. I’m wanting answers, not snide comments. My resonse to the first two posters was an attempt to get that across.

My brother is no more a conspiracy theorist (as he was accused of upthread) than I am, nor is he gullible.

He heard these things from a friend just like I heard it from him, and believe it or not, part of my motivation in posting this thread was to garner factual information to pass back to him.

My thanks to Dio and you for your informative posts. I see areas in which I may have further questions but I have to leave for a while, and besides I want to see what develops further. Keep the posts coming and I’ll return later.

I’m not addressing Obama’s plans; that’s for others to do. Like you. I tried to stick to whether or not these fears are plausible, rather than likely. I’m also trying to be as objective as possible (you know, this being the Pit) so it behooves me to point out that the Feds could override state right-to-work provisions.

I believe it.

If you want a short precis of what I posted above, here it is:
The Fairness Doctrine only applies to broadcast media, ie. network TV affiliates and terrestrial radio. It had/would have no bearing on print media, cable TV, satellite TV, satellite radio, teh intarwebs, etc.

new bit In any case, the Fairness Doctrine would allow conservatives to respond to liberals just as it would allow liberals to respond to conservatives. Under a hypothetical Democratic administration, that would probably help conservatives rather than hurt them.

The right-to-work thing is a non-starter; while it is technically possible for the Federal Government to override state statutes and constitutional provisions regarding labor relations, there is no movement (or even mainstream discussion) of such a move, and the hypothetical legislation he describes is pretty clearly violative of the Constitutional guarantee of freedom of association.

Shut down Fox News? Not on your life, they are the greatest recruiting tool evah!

Who knows how many millions of otherwise sensible moderate righties flocked to Fox Gnaws, tired of being lied to by the liberal tedia. And what did they get? Lies!

Big, fat, hulking gobs of buttwhistle. Little fibs, average sized lies and Godzilla-whoppers! Easy lies, too, the kind of lies you can catch out with about 10 seconds of The Google. And they are relentless, they never stop, they never slow down.

Best example: back in the early days of the Clusterfuck, when every couple of days Fox could rush to the airwaves with Breaking Wind…ahh, News…that the WMD had been found, yessiree, Bob, proof positive. I watched with rapt attention in those days, I adore Fox Gnaws, and I could barely turn away from the TV and get to these Boards to see if…yes, there it is!..the echoing thread, one of the Usual Suspects rushing pell-mell to breathlessly inform us that the WMD had been found, so there you liberal wimps, let me grind your nose in…

Whats that you say? Oh. A pile of rusty artillery shells? A broken down array of tubes on a railroad car? And over and over and over, oh, my! Haven’t laughed so hard since they shot Ol’ Yeller!

People who suspected they were being lied to suddenly realized what being lied to really looks like. It looks stupid! One may not mind being stupid, but damn sure Hugh Betcha nobody wants to* look *stupid.

Fox News is a machine for turning reasonable and intelligent moderate righties into moderate lefties. Shut them down? Not just “No”, “Fuck NO!” Its all I can do to restrain myself from sending them a check! God bless Hannity and His Bitch, Anne of Green Goebbels, Michael Medfly, bless them and keep them all!

So, if the government is so lieful, why didn’t they lie to us and tell us they did find WMDs? Certainly such a powerful institution could manufacture the 'discovery ’ of WMDs and sell it to us who’ve never ivestigated the matter without leaving our keyboard. Why cover up a lie with truth?

Incompetence.

That would require the cooperation of thousands of other people. Lying and massive government hoaxing are two different things.

 So, your brother is afraid the Fairness Doctrine will be revived, as it should be, and the right-to-work laws will be repealed, as they should be?

Let him be afraid. Let him be very afraid.

You know how they have that test that women take to see if they carry the gene for breast cancer?

They should have one for fucking ignorant retards like your family. And the government should make you take it before you pass down your retarded genes.

So, we have one of our more intelligent liberal posters saying the Fairness Doctrine should be brought back and that right-to-work laws should be repealed, followed by a far less intelligent liberal poster who is of the opinion that anyone who thinks liberals want to bring back the Fairness Doctrine and repeal right-to-work laws are retarded.

Funny that.

Now, having said that, I’m satisfied that the question has been answered. I no longer feel the need even to ask the questions I thought I’d have. Thanks again Dio, and to you too, RNATB for the information.

And olives, I look forward to the analysis you mention. I’ll try to remember to keep an eye out for the thread.

As far as I’m concerned the thread has served its purpose. If a mod would like to close it that would be fine with me, or on the other hand if you want to let it die a natural death like luci OD-ing on bong hits, that would be fine with me also.

Naw, you only had Glutton.

He’s almost the splitting image of december, isn’t he? Only more underhanded and vicious, if that’s possible.

Look, I’m beginning to think I’ve truly wounded you to the core. And honestly, while I didn’t buy your explanation of the Klansman assertion in the other thread, I really didn’t mean to wound you as deeply as you obviously have been. If you hadn’t been so insulting in your tone in that thread, particularly in your response to my question as to what you could possibly have meant by it, I would most likely have been much less ‘viscious’ if that’s what you want to call it…though I certainly wasn’t underhanded, either there or here.

So seriously. You need to let it go. Just suck it up and let it go. You made an ass of yourself both in what you said and in the lame justifications and accusations that followed. Big deal! Most of us here who are prolific posters have done the same. I certainly have! It’s not as big a deal as you’re making it, and you’re only doing yourself more harm by following me around and trying to keep it going.

Yes, yes, you got it.

I was terribly, terribly wounded by you, random internet person.

The Commerce Clause ceetainly gives Congress the authority to legislate in this area, and if they do, it will supersede state legislation.

This has already been pointed out to me in this thread and I’ve already acknowledged it.
