Of course intelligence is at least partially genetic. I think the resistance many people have to the notion of racial differences in IQ is based on the fear that people will take that into account (to the exclusion of almost all other factors) when making policy. And indeed, it seems that a lot of the push for racial IQs is ultimately an argument for the elimination of racial preferences.
First satement: If we say, blacks have a history of slavery and segergation to deal with, then their poverty can be explained by this legacy of racism.
Second statement: If we say blacks are less intelligent than other groups, then there is a temptation to say that they are at their socioeconmic resting state and they are poor because of their lower intelligence.
We know for a FACT that the first statement is true so we have programs like AA. A lot of people are adopting the second statment as true (publicly or privately) despite the lack of evidence and using it as rationale to eliminate programs like AA as if the first statement didn’t exist.
It’s possible, the same way it’s possible that there’s someone in the world somewhere who enjoys arguing as much as you do, and who is as terrible at it as you are.
But until there’s the faintest hint of supporting evidence, there’s really no reason to entertain such an absurd notion.
Man, BigT, I don’t want to pick a fight with you but fer chrissake study a post for a little bit before hitting the Quote button and replying.
Which is a long-winded way of saying “Whoosh”. (Sorry for the creepy, vacuous-eyed smiley. It is intended to convey “friendliness”.)
As in, yes, I do know that old question (not that old saying).
Now let’s pretend you asked me that question.
The answer is no. I have not stopped beating my wife. One cannot stop something one hasn’t begun.
After I answered the question, I could explain why it was deceptive.
You, however, have failed to answer the question I asked, not because it wasn’t relevant to your point, but because you’re either too stupid or too cowardly to see how it’s relevant.
Yeah, but it was kind of taken as read that the arrest had to be for the same crime. Stealing campaign signs is apparently a distinct crime in the state where your example happened.
Again, I am not attempt to justify or minimize the professor’s actions. I think she ought to be prosecuted. I just don’t think it’s particularly surprising that she wasn’t arrested prior to the investigation.
Unfortunately, I don’t think further study would have helped. And, thanks to my addon, I see the proper vBulletin 2.0 smileys, like good ol’ Cecil intended.
Some years ago, I heard a comedian say, “If you do something stupid and someone asks you, ‘Are you stupid,’ just answer, ‘Yes.’ The conversation will be over and you won’t have to deal with them any longer.”
It seems to me that comedian knew ol’ Lance would show up here one day.
People who are stupid tend to be stubborn and belligerent, true. But because someone is stubborn and belligerent is not certain proof of stupid. Stupid assholes are annoying, but intelligent assholes are far more destructive.
