This is only my second attempt to start a thread in the Pit. My first one was a horrible failure. It actually got bounced to IMHO. What an embarrassment! So please help me out. I think I’ve done my part by giving this an obnoxious, insulting title, so I’m hoping for the best.
OK, here’s the story. Arthur Brooks, a professsor at Syracuse University has written a book called “Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism.” It will be released this week.
The article I read about the book was written by Frank Brieaddy of the Religion News Service. Here’s the link to the book:

This quote from Brooks: “For too long, liberals have been claiming they are the most virtuous members of American society. Although they usually give less to charity, they have nevertheless lambasted conservatives for their callousness in the face of social injustice.”
In summary, Brooks is an economist, a “number cruncher” who has been a Democrat, a Republican and is now an independent. His numbers tell us that conservatives are more generous, in terms of giving, than liberals.
Another quote from Brooks: “I know I’m going to get yelled at a lot with this book,” he said. “But when you say something big and new, you’re going to get yelled at.”
So please, yell away, at Brooks, at Plan B, whatever…
