Licensed travel to Cuba for US Citizens

I was thinking about going on one of the licensed and legal tour groups to Cuba that are now available to Americans now due to the loosening of the US’s sanctions against Cuba. This specifically relates to travel companies that have licenses from the Office of Foreign Assets Control to do business in Cuba and likely charge more than one could get by sneaking in through a third country. At this point risking getting arrested or stranded by sneaking in doesn’t appeal to me that much and wouldn’t be worth it.

Has anyone done one of these trips? Are they worth it? Did you enjoy the destination in general?

This would not be my first trip to Latin America or the Caribbean, and I have some idea of what to expect in those types of societies, but it would be my first trip to a “Commie” land.
