"Lie back and think of England"

Where did this phrase come from and did Victorians actually tell it to their daughters?

It’s probably apocryphal, but the idea behind the phrase is that the woman, when her husband wanted sex, the wife just had to lie back and put up with it.

I’ve been using this phrase a lot lately, mostly when a player (poker) goes all in.

What? It cracks me up. It’s a great phrase.

No way did Victoria say that! She was a FREAK, and was all about Albert. She hated kids though she had plenty, calling them “beastly little things”.
