Recent threads focus on whether Tea Party bigwigs are crazy, or whether it’s all about liberals smearing them. I found the following quotations at a rather left-wing website. There seems to be widespread agreement that the Teabagging masses are ignorant bigots, but these quotes are by Congressman and by candidates for high office.

Are these quotes valid? Or is this just more smearing by left-wingers?

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn.:

“Gay marriage is probably the biggest issue that will impact our state and our nation in the last, at least, thirty years. I am not understating that,”

She also claimed that “Democrats in Congress” needed to be investigated for being un-American and that all Congress should do — once the Republicans reclaim the majority — is send out subpoena after subpoena and investigate the Obama administration

O’Donnell is the tea party-backed candidate seeking to replace Vice President Joe Biden in Delaware. She made the above statements on one of many appearances on Bill Maher’s Politically Incorrect. She also stated on that show that she had dabbled in witchcraft before turning to Christianity. Since then, O’Donnell has basically gone radio silent refusing all media appearances other than Fox News.

She also said

“We took the Bible and prayer out of public schools, and now we’re having weekly shootings practically. We had the 60s sexual revolution, and now people are dying of AIDS.” — Christine O’Donnell, during a 1998 appearance on Bill Maher’s ‘Politically Incorrect.

“Well, I don’t think that the Obama administration knows what’s Jesus, what belongs to Jesus and what belongs to them. That’s my big gripe. Apparently, he doesn’t know. But then, that’s because he’s not a Christian. He’s Muslim,” O’Donnell said last November.
“It’s a proven fact he’s Muslim. He wasn’t born in this country. He was born in Kenya. There are people who know it, people who know where the birth certificate is. It’s locked up and our government can’t get a hold of it. He’s a illegitimate president, in my estimation.”

Are any of these quotes real? Am I the only one who thinks American politics have gone well past the stage of amusement?

There are a surplus of ignorant bigots in the Tea Party. Is that news somehow?

Maybe true for the most part Cisco. Unfortunately, the people running for office as self-described Tea Party candidates don’t really fit that description.

Of course they do. And we need to send them to Washington so they can stand up for us against the beltway bureaucrats.

Hell no. Not now, not ever. Some things piss me off.

When they try to push their versions of religion, and talk about “christian America”, and re-writing the Constitution according to God’s law, it pisses me off. Who are they to tell the rest of us what God’s law is? Maybe we have our own and better version, but don’t want to force it on anyone (free will anyone? )
When they talk about the “gay agenda” and God’s will it pisses me off. They can stay in their own bedroom.
When they talk about the president as the “nigger in chief” - and I have heard some say that when they think no one else is around - it pisses me off.
When they wave their flag and want to fight the world, I have to wonder how many ever served, and how many USED TO either pray they don’t get drafted or ran to Canada.
When they say no handouts for anyone and get gov out of healthcare, but they want their social security medicare medicaid it’s hypocrisy. When they say “no taxes” that tells me they want it all for free (a hand out).
To hell with the Tea Party.

My favorite new one is from the debate two days ago by Christine O’Donnell. She said that she supports schools teaching Creationism in science class alongside evolution to protect people’s First Amendment rights. Last I checked the First Amendment does not allow public schools to teach religion as fact. It seems that would be an explicit endorsement of a religion.

O’DONNELL: What I will support in Washington, D.C. is the ability for the local school system to decide what is taught in their classrooms and what I was talking about on that show was a classroom that was not allowed to teach creationism as an equal theory as evolution. That is against their constitutional rights and that is an overreaching arm of the government
