I just checked the listings for the Theater right down the road from me and was shocked to see they were playing Monty Python’s The Life of Brian. Why didn’t anyone inform me earlier they were releasing this again? Or is my theater the only one playing it (it’s the only one listed in my area). Is there any special event they’re trying to commemorate by doing this?
It was released in 79 so if my math is right then, yep 25 years.
HOLY SHIT 25 YEARS
Here’s a map from IMDb showing the areas where it’s playing, at least today. Unfortunately, none of the theaters I checked had it playing past October 7.
I don’t know what the rerelease is for, though.
As I alluded to it appears to be for the 25 year anniversary. . Most of the sites I’ve seen say it was going to be released earlier in the year to counter PotC. Maybe it was in Europe.
From the article:
I saw it in a theater in NYC back around late April 2004. It was like seeing it again for the first time.
Saw Holy Grail in a theater back in 2001 as welll
Saw it last Saturday at a midnight showing. It was great
It doesn’t appear to be playing here. I’m so bummed. I loved seeing Holy Grail on the big screen.
You don’t have to see it just because everyone else wants to see it. You are all individuals.
waiting
We are all individuals.
Happy now?
I’m not.
He’s not the Messiah! He’s a very naughty boy!
I’m not a roman mum, I’m a kike, a yid, a heebie, a hook-nose, I’m kosher mum, I’m a Red Sea pedestrian, and proud of it!
“It-- it says, ‘Romans, go home’.”
“No, it doesn’t. What’s Latin for ‘Roman’? Come on!”
Are there any women here today?
No.No. No.No…
There’s a cafe nearby that was screening movies outdoors all summer for free in hopes that you’d come and buy their coffee and perhaps a pastry as well, which I was very excited to do, but all the movies were “Meh.”
Until they advertised The Life of Brian. Oh, I was excited! I gathered friends and things to sit on. I made plans.
Two days before the screening, I got an email announcing that they had to cancel the screening because the movie was currently showing in theatres (well, I could have told them* that*!). Frankly, I’m still recovering from the devastation. Isn’t that just the saddest story you’ve heard in…the last 5 minutes?
I bought it on DVD to console myself.
But he said “Jehovah”!
Wow, that imdb map’s a neat feature! Unfortunately, the closest it’s playing is in Richland, WA, about 1000 miles up the coast. Hmm, if I left right now I could make the 10p.m. showing…
But I gotta ask…
What have the Romans ever done for us?
Always look on the bright side of life.
Are you the Judean People’s Front?
Fuck off! We’re the People’s Front of Judea!
It was here in Chicago a few months back. It was great to see it again. It’s still my favorite Monty Python movie.
Lobs stone.
Well he did say Jehovah!
This is so cool! To my knowledge, this is the first time ever that a movie has had a geographically-limited run… And it’s in Bozeman. Of course, we are a college town, which might have something to do with it. And we did recently get a new theater, leaving us with more screens than we know what to do with, which might also have something to do with it.
Meanwhile, I say we should unite against our common enemy.
