Light gun arcade game where you destroy a coffee cup?

Just a quick question. I remember playing a light gun target shooting game in an arcade in Gattlinburg, TN once. It was pretty standard in that it timed your draw and you shot some digital popup targets.

However at the end it showed a coffee cup and if you hit it, it would expload in pieces. I seem to remember it was fairly realistic and not digitized, but my memory is hazy. Anyone know how this effect was achieved or have any info on this game? I never saw it before, and have never seen it again.

Thanks

I don’t know how they actually did do it, but surely they could have done it just by shooting an actual coffee cup with an actual rifle and filming the process, no?

Hey, thats actually one of my favorite games at an arcade I go to. The effect is made like this. They pop up the coffee cup with a target on it. when you hit the target pieces of plastic are shot up out of the same hole the cup is in, at the same time the actual cup is quickly returned to its position out of sight. They reset the scores last week so I dont have first place anymore. but when you place in top 10 i think, you shoot the left and right target to scroll letters and the cup to enter. my friend was able to get a look at the cup during that time.

Namco Quick & Crash, looks like:

Pretty neat effect.
