My clothes washer has settings that say “Light” and “Heavy.” I’ve never known whether the settings refer to how dirty (lightly soiled/heavily soiled) the clothes are or to how much the load of clothes weighs. The instruction manual doesn’t explain. So, Dopers, please weigh in. What do the settings mean?
My guess is it refers to weight. The machine will use more water set on heavy than it will when it’s set on light. Is that what happens?
Do you also have options for water level, minutes of washing, fabric type, etc.?
I have a front load machine that has a setting that says something like “Heavy Soil” (I’m not going downstairs to check it right now) - I use it when I have a load of particularly grubby jeans/sweats or a batch of nasty towel/rags from a nasty cleanup chore. I’ve never sat and watched the entire cycle, so I don’t know what, if any, difference it makes. But my clothes end up clean, so there’s that.
