Lightbulb pricing puzzle

About a week ago my local supermaket started charging energy efficient lightbulbs at 69p each, but 10 for £1:confused:. I nabbed 20, enough to last me years, thinking it was just a gimmick by my supermarket; I then saw the same offer in another store, so I thought it must be the lightbulb manufacturer’s deal. I’ve now seen it with 3 different lightbulb brands at 4 different stores, and I cannot understand the pricing logic. Anubody know what this is about?

Hmmm… lightbulbs are becoming valueless. Do the manufacturers know something we dont?

Googling produces several press releases suggesting that various power companies are funding the discounts. I.e., we’re all paying the difference on our electric bill.

Didn’t you notice the pretty fireworks shows all over the countryside last week?

BTW, it’s your turn to water the triffid.
