Lightnin' gazes across the pond...

In a few months- most likely mid-November- I’m finally going to visit the British Isles. I’ve never been- hell, I’ve never been out of the states, unless you count a few Mexican tourist spots, which I don’t.

So I’m going to be spending about two weeks over in the land of my ancestors.

The only problem is that I don’t have a lot of money- I gotta do this cheap. I can get round trip tickets for around five hundred, I estimate- and I intend to stay in hostels (If they’re friendly- get it? I slay me.). I’m going to backpack around the isles, when I’m not on a train. Have I mentioned I need to do this cheap? Someone want to host a bald-headed guy from Texas who doubles as a lightning rod?

Anyone got any advice for me? I’m nervous about doing this, but really damn excited. I’ve got months to go, and I’ve already started packing.

First off, make some sort of plan of things you want to do and see. If you give some ideas I can make some suggestions.

As for accommodation, I would recommend using Youth Hostels and B&B’s but around the South-East of the UK you will find that it can be quite expensive to live.

Trains are very expensive, you’d be better off using the National Coach system as its cheaper and more reliable. This is a small country compared to Texas and stuff is well crowded together.
Hitching in November in the UK demands a cetain toughness as it is usually cold, wet and windy, except when its foggy.

Whatever you want to see I’d put a heavy emphasis on indoor stuff such as the Royal Armouries, the National Railway museum, Imperial War Museum.

Next, e-mail me, I live in a part of Yorkshire in an area central to much of the inetresting stuff round here (though where I live is not interesting at all).
