Lightning strike caught on tape

I found this on Break.com A too-close-for-comfort view of lightning striking a tree.
Pretty cool.

Wimp dropped the camera.

That pussy.

I was in a house in West Virginia that got hit by lightning. I was in the front room and it struck the front door, traveled through the room, shot through the floor and popped in the basement.

It was one of the loudest things I ever heard.

Okay, okay - but did you hold onto the camera?!

Our house got hit by lightning once as well. We were getting ready for work, and it was pouring outside, with crashing thunder. My wife was in the shower. Just when you thought the crashes couldn’t get any louder, there was one that you could feel.
My wife came into the bedroom and opened her closet, and it sounded like it was raining inside her closet. The trap door to the access was through her closet. When we opened the trap door, we looked up and saw the sky. The lightning had blown a hole in the roof right above it. So instead of dressing for work, I found myself up on the roof in a downpour nailing a tarp over a hole in our roof.

I once walked out to my pickup in a storm. At the exact time I put my key into the door, lightning struck pretty darn close. I felt a surge travel through my arm, and it was completely numb for a couple hours afterward.

I was a student at Georgia Tech. On West Campus, there were two dorms, about 30 feet from each other, Folk and Caldwell, with a little courtyard in the middle and a tree at the center of the courtyard. I lived in room 101, ground level, with the tree 15 feet or so outside my window. I don’t know if the lightning hit the tree or what (It was still there afterwards), but lightning hit SOMETHING in that courtyard one day while I was in my room and looking out the window. The light and explosion were simply unreal - I have never been as scared as that…

Call me names if you want, but I’m pretty sure I would have dropped the camera AND changed my pants after that.
