OK, it’s not quite *that *scary, but at about 2 minutes in length, it definitely has the best scary:runtime ratio I’ve seen since He Dies at the End.
You rotten so-and-so! How am I supposed to sleep tonight?
Damn good for two-and-a-half minutes.
Why is it that when there’s something freaky at night we all think bedcovers will keep us safe?
She needs some Jell-O.
Also set the bed on fire. They won’t come near smoke and fire and Jell-O.
Mmm.
The build-up was good and spooky - especially the bits where she was flicking the light on and off and when her lamp started flickering. But the actual monster was shown too clearly for the goofy makeup job they gave it. A more ‘what was that?’ flash might have served better, or leaving it mostly in shadow except for its hand coming out to turn off the light.
That totally fucking rocked!
Not bad.
Heh heh. I knew some folks here would appreciate it. And some would “appreciate it” such that they wanted to give me a good slap! Feel free to PM me in the wee hours tonight, as I too will be up with ALL the lights burning.
Well, it worked well enough for me that I really don’t want to rewatch to assess your points!
I thought it was interesting that even in such a micro-film, they used the technique of Using a bit of humor to relieve the tension, so MORE tension can be built up again. At least for me, they timed it perfectly so just as I started to yell, “Don’t turn it off again, you fool!” she grabbed the duct tape.
So I was the only one who laughed at the goblin’s face?
It was pretty scary up to that point.
ETA: Was there a thread on this short recently?
Really want to watch this, but I’m too scared!
Regarding the monster’s face
The woman plays the monster too, her face is digitally manipulated (also, she’s the filmmaker’s wife)
Siskel & Ebert.
Yeah, the big reveal was a little too goofy - my reaction was more “what the…?” than “AAH!”
Frankly, I was more scared by…that weird-ass European powerbar. I realize the small brass clips are just there to keep the oversized plugs in place, but it really looks like she’s blindly probing with her fingers dangerously close to exposed electrical contacts. Yikes!
I found a post on the actress’s website (sorry, I can’t find it now or I’d link to it) about that: She says that the monster face was intended to look whimsical; the idea is that this “goblin” (or whatever it is) is just having fun fucking with this poor woman.
That said, I definitely didn’t laugh. This scared the shit out of me the first time I watched it.
HOLY CRAP!! I was nodding off while watching. Guess how tired I am now.
10 out of 10.
Damn!
I just got up to pee and made the mistake of checking the dope.
So much for going back to sleep…
My son uses those exact IKEA bedsheets. Time to go check on him.
The first scene in the hallway was brilliant. Very good!
OneCentStamp hasn’t posted since. Maybe someone should go check on her/him??
I think she’s in the basement. You should totally go down there to check.
