Does the software that SDMB runs on support any kind of ‘Like’ button or user karma functionality? I would really like to see it implemented if possible.

It’s been brought up before. The general consensus is express yourself.
I really don’t like karma/reputation ratings. Too often it can turn into a popularity contest rather than judging the value of a well articulated but unpopular opinion.

Ugh.
I wouldn’t. One message board I’m on had a reputation system. It was so misused to give posters negative rep, that it was disabled. I don’t feel a need to have other posters pump up my rep. I’d rather have my posts speak for me, and if other posters have an issue with me, they can take it to the Pit.
I’m also against it. The main issue with such a system is that people with like/upvote those they agree with and downvote those they disagree with without any thought to the quality of the post. Like what happens on Reddit.

I would hate to see the introduction of such a button here. The emphasis of this board is on words: not pictures, not gifs everywhere, not thumbs up or thumbs down buttons. Smilies are fine, they are extremely useful for indicating tone of voice, but as for the rest, no thank you. If you approve or disapprove of a post then say so. In words.
