Unless he’s gained weight again, he’s not that corpulent. Did he & that CNN chick get married? I think Marla was Wife 3, but I didn’t know he got remarried.

If the show separates (segregates) the contestants into “tribes” based on perceived race, then they are engaging in segregation. They are hardly guily of capital S Segregation as an act of law, but they are clearly engaged in an action, the clearest verb to describe which is “segregate.”

Fair enough. I realize the word has a neutral meaning, but any number of synonyms or alternate words could have been used in this case; when the word “segregation” is used in the context of race, I see it as an effort to evoke Jim Crow-type images and raise the general level of righteous-outrage-osity.

How the hell does a radio anouncer get away will saying something as racist and inflammatory as these comments regarding racial segregation in Survivor TV show:
Will he be dragged through the courts over this. Or am I missing something? Was he using irony? Mother Jones suggests he is being offensive and I would be surprised if popular US radio announcers did irony.

This transcript doesn’t appear to be ironic. Looks like the guy is a complete idiot.

Anyway, some people think RL was being serious, others facetious. I don’t know the fellow; never heard him, wouldn’t know what he looks like - but, perhaps he was couching racist invective in mock humour.

I’m kind of surprised by the leeway you guys are giving Rush on this one. His statements were clearly racist, even if he was using them as the basis for a joke. The difference between his delivery and somebody like Rock’s is that Rock would be using them ironically to highlight the absurdity of the show and such views, whereas Rush has never shown any inclination that he doesn’t actually believe what he said. He’s doing his own version of “Kidding On The Square”, to borrow Al Franken’s term.

No, he hasn’t done anything to merit legal action, but it’s still just as offensive.

Almost the exact same thing was posted in The Pit.

What’s worse is the challenges are racially divided as well. The first four challenges are as follows: computer programming, landscaping, basketball, and oppressing minorities.

Interestingly enough, that poster wasn’t tarred and feathered for being racist. In fact, it was instantly recognized as a joke. If you find this sort of thing so offensive, why not hop in there and lambast this poster for making similar remarks.
