Don’t Worry Baby.
Good Vibrations and God Only Knows.
One for the lyrics as well as the tune,
Hang on to your ego,
They renamed it and rewrote a few of the words, changed the production some too.
‘I know there’s an answer’
Considering what happened with Brian’s mental state, this is is rather poignant, ‘I just wasn’t made for these times’
Heroes and villains.
God Only Knows. Or Good Vibrations. Or Sloop John B. Or… geez, this is a toughie.
Don’t Worry Baby. Very erotic. A close second is God Only Knows.
Wouldn’t It Be Nice.
I Get Around is great. I also like all the car songs, especially The Little Old Lady From Pasadena. The visual of some withered elderly woman barely peering over the steering wheel of a tire-smoking machine as she dusts all the wannabees just cracks me up.
Same. Of course, I’d have to HEAR the entire catalog, as I doubt I’d recognize more than a dozen by title.
Surfin’ USA…oh wait…they stole that from Chuck Berry
How about “Darlin”? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6xoJeq-rto
I knew one of the “Boys” wives and she told me that this was her favorite too.
Kokomo
Barbara Ann. Yeah, corny but what the heck.
Gotta go with the tide for “God Only Knows,” with nods to “Surf’s Up,” “Good Vibrations,” “I Get Around,” “Heroes and Villains,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Don’t Worry Baby”…
I really like that one, and several others from the underrated Wild Honey album.
I have to second “Shut Down.” It was the very first Beach Boys song I ever heard in 1964 at the age of 7. I was visiting with my grandmother and my uncle had the 45. I played that sucker over and over my whole visit there. I’m sorry if I wore the groove out on that record.
I heard “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” when I was just starting to get interested in girls, and both its melody and wistful teen romanticism totally hooked me. I have it on my iPod and love it still.
You know it seems the more we talk about it
It only makes it worse to live without it
Easy answer for me: Wouldn’t It Be Nice
Runner up: Kokomo
**God Only Knows **at the end of Love Actually makes me melt into a sobbing pile of goo. It’s absolutely perfect in that context.
One that I love that hasn’t been mentioned is Surfer Girl. I like Kokomo and Don’t Worry Baby a lot, too.
“Fun, Fun, Fun”
then
“Don’t Worry Baby”
and
“Sloop John B”
Man, this far and no love for California Girls? Shut down would be a strong second, though, with Sloop John B third.
