Heroes and Villains became my favourite Beach Boys song after I learned that it was the basis for the “Black Sheep” sequence in Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.
Surfin’ USA, simply because I absolutely nail it when I sing it.
Hands down - God Only Knows
Dark Horse - Surf’s Up
Seasonal - Little Saint Nick
No, please, Silenus, not that “throw-away” tune with the stupid lyrics???!!!:):)
May I please recommend this one?
Thanks!
Quasi
What can I say - I love the harmonies.
“Run run reindeer…”
Like their lyrics were sometimes smart ?
You’re allowed, my friend, you’re allowed!
Loved your other choices, BTW!

Post #40 in this thread. Yes. Smart.
Thanks

Musically I vote for Good Vibrations. If it’s just for great singing, then I’d go with God Only Knows.
Unfortunately, the Beach Boys also recorded Seasons in the Sun, so we can’t claim they never had a bad recording.
*… "have you ever been down Salina’s way,
Where Steinbeck found the valley?
And he wrote about it, the way it was, in his travelins with “Charlie”?"*
Those are the Beach Boys this ol’ “Flower Child” remebers, even though “Holland” came later!
Thanks!

Meant to add an apostrophe after Salinas.
And I think I also may have missed one at the end of the word “travelins”
Also, I scrogged up “remembers” up there!
Just shoot me, okay? ;
Thanks

1a selection: Don’t Worry, Baby
1b selection: In My Room
1c selection: Just about every other song posted previously!
God Only Knows. Absolute masterpiece. Closely followed by You Still Believe In Me, Wouldn’t It Be Nice and Do It Again. Didn’t like Kokomo.
Shit. I just re-read through the thread and realized that one of my choices, Little Old Lady From Pasadena, was actually a Jan and Dean song. Ooops.
I also want to add another vote for Don’t Worry Baby.
Just about all my faves have already been mentioned, but I just want to put in a good word for their gorgeous cover of “I Can Hear Music”.
Kokomo
Don’t Worry, Baby
In My Room
“Heroes and Villains” definitely. The Beach Boys always had great harmonies, but H&V was almost polyphonic with different vocal parts interweaving into the full melody. It blows me away whenever I hear it.
I’m shocked by the love for “Kokomo”, which I thought of as a generic and forgettable pop song. Am I being whooshed?
It’s a #1 hit, you don’t think some people may actually like it?
Yeah, but what do they know?
