Lingerie Barbie? Ummm..no.

Why the fuss? This is merely the Second Coming of “Bild Lili”.

I’m trying to picture a cross between Barbie and Hans Blix and it is just not working.

Well as long as I’m not seeing lingerie Elmo, there still is some good left in the world.

That would be all the Barbies my girls have at home. Many of them are actually, “nudist colony headless Barbie.”

No good left, I’m afraid. Or is that not what you were thinking of?

Here’s where you can see a picture of Lingerie Barbie and the others in the collection.

Ethilrist -

I followed your link.

Good lord.

Well, since nobody’s posted an actual link to the actual lingerie barbie yet, here ya go. Reasonably work-safe.

Hey, my Barbie was doing Ken way back in 1965 when I was 7 years old, I really doubt that in 2003 a little lingerie is going to corrupt the kids.

Actually, U.N. Weapons Inspector Barbie should have a leather ensemble available, seeing as how one of the U.S. inspectors has been reported to be big into the S/M scene.

I don’t think it’s suprising. Barbie is a whore. I mean, that’s what she does. How else is she driving a lamburgini and living in a malibu beach house? Baking cookies? I don’t think so.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooo…

2000-2003

Slainte–wow–that looks like an excerpt from a risque episode of Captain Scarlet…

I agree with **beagledave[/b[ on this one but I understand that YMMV.

:frowning: I cannot code… sorry beagledave

Surely there’s an anatomically correct “Sexually Active Barbie” somewhere?

I don’t see what the problem is. It’s meant for adults. They aren’t marketing it to kids, stores aren’t placing it amongst all the ‘kid-friendly’ dolls so what’s the problem ? Anyone care to clarify what is wrong, because I feel like I’m being wooshed.

I’m wondering the same thing, **Goo. **

I collect Barbies too (although I haven’t been able to afford any in quite some time). There’s a distinct adult collector market, and this Lingerie Barbie is for that market. You won’t see it advertised on TV. You might find it at Toys R Us sometime, but only because they carry quite a lot of adult collectible Barbies. But my guess is that it’ll stay at places like FAO Schwarz, the Barbie online site, or mail-order.

And like **dragongirl ** and GythaOgg said, some collectors do re-dress their dolls (although I myself don’t). That’s most likely why they make reference to “dress and play.” They know the adults won’t actually play with them like kids do, but they do know that some collectors will change the clothes on the doll.

Yes that’s it. I find these lingerie Barbies (in the Silkstone range) quite unattractive. They have the hard face of the early Barbies. I don’t think many little girls get these ones.

But if you look quite dispassionately at the Mattell range, there is a wide range of Barbies, and many that offer a range of imaginative play possibilities.

Duck Duck dear, it wasn’t Mattell who yanked paleontolgoist and veterinarian Barbie off the shelves - it was the customers. Mattell are customer driven, and sweet cute stuff still appeals to little girls.

Fairy Chat Mom has it right - Barbies are not so much an inspiration, as an avenue of safe vicarious exploration for little girls. I think there are worse people around in the mass media than her and Mattell.

And if you actually watch the kids movies Rapunzel and Nutcracker, you’ll see that Barbie is consistently presented as a problem solver and rescuer. In Nutcracker she encourages her sister to keep working at her ballet and it is she that rescues the prince. Still a pretty crappy movie, but then I’m not a nine-year old little girl.

Brittney Spears has more to answer for than Barbie, I think.
