I’ve been thinking of switching to redhat linux 9.0 and just about every piece of hardware in my computer is compatible with it except my modem, which is a Generic Softk56 #2. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good 56k modems that are compatible with Linux. I’ve searched just about everywhere but I’m not sure if any of them are any good and was wondering if any dopers had any recomendations on any.
The USR Sportster is, but I bet it’s either big $$$ or not made anymore. (FYI, it’s a “real” modem, not a Winmodem). You might wanna check out http://www.linmodems.org/ or http://start.at/modem/ if you haven’t already. There are “Softk56” entries in the supported-listing, but I don’t know if any of them apply to you specifically.
I am running a 56k modem on drake 9.1, as well as the highspeed dsl service
Model is a 56k us robotics sportster external.
Not sure where you live ,but modems should not cost that much money anymore. Check your local buy and sell, you should be able to pick up a bargain.
