I just looked in the bedstand drawer and see 5, yes 5, tubes of Chapstick - original, mint, strawberry, and 2 orange. There is another original in my jeans pocket, an orange in my backpack, and a mint on the desk in the other room.
Can’t go anywhere without it. If I forget one - heaven forbid - it’s almost panic attack time. Must buy one.
Have also used Carmex, Blistex and bag balm. Loved the Carmex. The tingle, the smell… Blistex was too slimy for my taste though. Bag balm was really good in ultra-cold temperatures, and good for easing burnt lips from skiing.
Although I think I’ve finally discovered how to keep my lips from blistering up in the winter.
Medicated Blistex during the day. That Chaptsick overnight treatment stuff at night. It’s just dry enough so that it won’t wipe off on your pillow. It’s great.
Rachel Perry Lip Lover. Preferred flavors would be banana coconut and tangerine dream.
I love them because they have sunscreen in them. And when you live in Florida, you need sunscreen just walking from your car through the parking lot to the office. Sunburnt lips suck.
I’ll use Burt’s Bees in a pinch, but really don’t care for it and I don’t think it has sunscreen in it.
Carmex, absolutely! I carry two tubes of it in my purse, have one in my desk at work and have another on my nightstand.
Fellow Carmex junkies, have any of you noticed a difference recently in the flavor they have added to the balm? Up until the last tube I bought, the flavor was a mild vanilla flavor (I’m assuming to mask slightly the camphor taste). The new tube I just bought has a wonderful hint of a berry flavor to it. I wonder if they try out different flavoirs to see how well they sell.
There is a brand of lip stuff that I believe is only sold in Germany, called ‘Lobello’. She has an aunt that lives there so we get a fresh supply in every few months or so. She swears it’s the greatest lip stuff ever.
You’ll probably have to wait awhile, it was a Halloween offering from Avon that I’m hoping against hope that they’ll bring back this year.
It just occurred to me that despite my protestations against tingly lip balm, I also have some Burt’s Bees that I use when my lips are really quite chapped, and it’s really very nice. But it is my only “medicinal” balm and I save it for when I need something of that strength. Everyday use stuff, though, has to be yummy flavored.
Carmex and I have recently discovered Superbalm by Clinique. Gives a nice shiny lip treatment, smells and tastes good too!
I bought a new Carmex this weekend, mint flavored. I really like the texture and smell, but it took me a few hours to realize why a had a nasty taste in my mouth. Eeeewhhhhh… I’ll stick to the plain ol carmex in the future…
I used to be addicted to Carmex. Once I realized that a) there was a monkey and b) it was, indeed, sitting on my back, I went cold turkey. It’s been 3 or 4 months. Besides the occasional fall from grace, I’ve managed to avoid using it…
At the present, it’s Lipsmacker, vanilla flavor if I can get it. Used to use chapstick a long time ago. Seems like I’ve always had chapped lips. I’ve tried to do without it, can’t stand it.
No, I did NOT do a usersearch to find this.
AMazingly, I have a Lipsmacker Vanilla in my purse right now.
Thats my preferred brand, however, I prefer the coconut cake ones, hard to find though.
w00t! Natural Ice all the way - cherry or mint, either’s good. Used to be called Mentholatum something or other. My mom got me hooked on it long ago (back in the day when it came in a more ugly tube) and now I can’t be without. One in my desk at work, one in a pocket in nearly every coat I own, and one on my bedside table for at night. Mr. Snicks even carries one now too! Heavy user in winter (especially in Minnesota!), less so in the summer when it’s less dry.
And for the uninitiated, it’s “lip ice.” As distinct from “chapstick.” As in, “You got any lip ice?” “No, but I have some chapstick.” Lip ice - learn it, live it, love it.
I’m a Lip Medex user (abuser) myself. I’ve used them all at one point or another and I haven’t found any product that measures up with taste, texture, and ability to make my lips soft. Love it, love it, love it.
Have you tried the Burt’s Bees Lifeguard’s Choice? Although I don’t believe it has sunscreen in it, it does provide a zinc-oxide-like coverage (thick and whitish) for your lips. I find it works extremely well for me in the winter, as my lips peel and crack.
For more everyday use I like either plain old Burt’s Bees or Origins Lip Remedy, which offers instant results, relieving pain and making my lips smooth and kissable.
This is exactly what I love to use. Either Lipsmackers or Cherry Chapstick. My fave Lipsmackers flavours are the vanilla and the Cherry Candycane (which is in my pocket right now). I am always misplacing my chapstick so I end up buying more and finding old ones. It’s like an easter egg hunt that never ends!
tlw I keep at least 2 things of chapstick on my keyboard (in the little dent for pencils of course. Don’t look at me like that!) As I usually empty my pockets at the computer (it’s near the door) it’s easy to have it all right there.
And I am late sometimes when I can’t find my chapstick as well! It drives me nuts to go any length of time without it. My lips get dry and icky, and then the corners usually crack if I don’t have it for longer than a day or two. I can recall one weekend where I went on a retreat for a weekend and had forgotten my chapstick. I borrowed from some people sometimes, but not often. I was in agony that weekend.
Do any of you have a lip blam cozy? It’s like a little scuba-suit-material tube/holster that hugs the lip balm tube. It’s usually on a clip so you can snap it onto something. We clipped one onto our diaper back back when Mr Cranky was trying to turn Cranky Jr into a little addict.
I also have a cap-top that turns lip blam into a necklace, but that’s a little too weird for me. I use to to keep a tube hanging from my office doorknob so I never have to dig around at work.
