Ten years ago, liquor used to be quite a bit cheaper in Indiana than in Michigan. It had nothing to do with deposits.
Can anybody confirm that that is still the case? Would it be statewide or might it have been a situation that existed right at the border?
I can’t say, but state taxes are different from state to state. The MLCC recently allowed merchants in Michigan so set their own prices, so now that they’re not cost controlled, liquor in Michigan is probably higher than in the past. How that compares to Indiana, I can’t say. Back when I smoked, cigarettes were considerably cheaper in Indiana – no sin taxes?
