List of bands named after songs

For the back story to this listen to this episode of the brilliant Tobolowsky Files

Eh, I actually did a search but I typed in the wrong keywords then - nothing similar came up. :o

Oh… don’t know why I thought it was after the Smiths.

Well, there’s their song “Panic” with the lines:

“Burn down the disco, hang the blessed DJ”

Dream Evil, power metal band named after the Dio song.

Twofer: Sister Machine Gun, from a song by Skinny Puppy, and Front Line Assembly, from a a label on a piece of masking tape on Skinny Puppy gear in the studio.

Aqualung --> Jethro Tull song
Blood on the Tracks --> Bob Dylan song
Hello Goodbye --> Beatles song
The Kooks --> David Bowie song
Powderfinger --> Neil Young song
Uh Huh Her --> PJ Harvey song
Burning Airlines --> Brian Eno song
The Get Up Kids --> The Cure song
Old 97’s --> Johnny Cash song
Seether --> Veruca Salt song --> Charlie and The Chocolate Factory

nitpick: not a Dylan song, but an album.

Weddings Parties Anything. from the Clash song Revolution Rock.

Willie and the Poor Boys, a Bill Wyman side project in the 80s, named for a CCR lyric from “Down on the Corner.”

The Sweethearts of the Rodeo were named after a Byrds album (but not a particular song).

Lady GaGa named herself after the Queen track Radio GaGa.

And on a different topic but related, about something that really really annoys me.

David Bowie was a great fan of Jim Bowie, the inventor of the Bowie knife, and named himself after him.

Shortly after he became famous certain media twats in the U.K. started pronouncing his name as in the same sound as the bough of a tree, or a formal bend at the waist on meeting.

I would imagine that they did this to make themselves appear to be in the “inner circle”, what a bunch of arseholes.
