List of sites (and alternatives?) going dark in protest of SOPA/PIPA? [NAF!]

It was “Need Answer Fast.” Heading into last night I was under the impression that a handful of oft-used resources were about to go completely offline, as opposed to barely noticeable (thanks NoScript!) blips.

I’m still working on the same project (ouch, haven’t slept), but the pace isn’t due to lack of references.

This was definitely a concern for Wikipedia. There was a consensus that there should be some sort of emergency access to information.

And did no one else notice that they completely turned off editing on Wikipedia, even if you got around the block? Only the stewards (higher up than administrators) were allowed to edit. Blocking edits was considered to be absolutely crucial to any block, perhaps to make sure people wouldn’t get around it just to vandalize while the large majority of editors weren’t watching.

Anyways: A webcomic I frequent actually worked it into the storyline. The POV character at the time blacked out, and that blacked out the site, save for that day’s panels and the day before that led up to it.

Start here to see it happen. OR jump here for the actual (Flash animated) panel that led to the blackout. (It still does as of this post, but who knows how much longer.) Be forewarned that the full 7000+ page webcomic is kinda like Lost with actual answers.
