List of the Banned

I’m not sure you are correct about the right winger idea. But if you want to know why they were banned, read the announcements. That’s what they are for.

Of the posters listed by Marley, only Jimmy Joe Meager and bullrun I think were clearly “right wing.” The first was banned for socking, and the second was essentially trolling.

The point is a simple notice saying Smedley was banned because he told the moderator to blow it out his ass, would be simple to do. There is no reason for piling on. Just a line or two of information.

And that information is provided in an ATMB thread when a long-time member is banned because of an ongoing pattern of bad behavior.

Socks and spammers do not get explanatory threads.

It’s not, though. I’ve seen several people (including you, actually) who were banned for a time and then allowed to come back. Most of the folks who are permanently banned seem to be, as noted, spammers (or one trick pony types with an agenda), socks, or folks who work REALLY hard to piss off the Mods enough to get rid of them. Only long time members who get the ax really rate an ATMB thread detailing why they (finally) got the boot…at least, IMHO. Anything else (especially for the troll types) would be both playing into their plans and too freaking much work for the Mods…again, IMHO and FWIW and all that.

I’m trying to tell you that we do that. It looks like this. We don’t post a list of everybody we’ve banned, but when we ban someone we do explain why.

(As it turns out, I can resist, since I don’t want to join the list, so never mind. Carry on)

I saw what you did there.

I don’t have any idea what you are talking abou…

points to the left Hey! Look! Isn’t that an elephant…?!?

Just to clarify, in the distant past posters were banned and that was it. A few individuals were allowed back after they were able to convince the administration that they would be better behaved in the future. Almost all of these returnees ended up being banned again when that turned out not to be the case.

More recently, we’ve instituted a policy of (usually) suspending a poster for a fixed period of time (often 30 days) before imposing a permanent ban. If, after they return, they subsequently get warnings for behavior similar to that which resulted in the suspension, that will result in a permanent ban.

gonzomax has not been banned in the past. He was, however, suspended for a month in March.

Maybe, though, when someone long-term is banned, it would be good to post a thread in ATMB announcing it and briefly explaining why.

No you can not.

That’s exactly what they do.

Still, there’s no reason we couldn’t post an announcement.

There was a thread like that not too long ago of “great flame-outs” or something like that. As I recall it basically went like Twick said. Made for much less exciting reading than you would think.
On the general idea of a banned list; one board I used to frequent decided to go with a “Wall of Shame” listing all the banned members. It almost became a competition for folks fading away from posting to get banned and in the most dramatic manner possible. That basically killed the board from 50 - 60 posts an hour to maybe 5 a week. No one wants to say much when its just going to start a fur-ball that was going to happen anyway.

Whoosh.

“Is there a list of the banned anyplace?”

Sure, Wiki.

Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, Robbie Robertson, and Levon Helm.

Virgil Cane?

No, maybe not.

Jack Dean Tyler and the Foreskins were a great banned back in the day.
