I recorded this yesterday, and used 12 different guitar sounds in a row, to compare the differences in how they sound on record.
So now I need opinions as to which of the 12 lead sounds is the best, so listen, enjoy and share. Sorry if this sounds repetitive, but I wanted to compare them all in the same context.
The problem with having too many different guitar sounds available to you is that you become convinced that one of them is the “perfect” sound for a particular song.
In this case, I think you’re obsessing. I don’t think a single one of those guitar sounds fits the song any better or worse than any of the others. Why don’t you flip a coin?
The distortions at 0:12, 0:36, and 2:11 I think are the most suitable for this style of music. The other ones feel too thin and cold for me in this musical context. Too much high end without much midrange.
Disclaimer: I’m listening on my laptop speakers, so I have nothing resembling audio fidelity.
My personal favorites are at 1:10 (kinda oboe-ish) and 1:37 (rather clean). The bluzey ones at 0:36 and 2:11 are OK too.
Has anyone done something similar with different playing situations? I’m more interested in the notes, creativity, phrasing and emotion of what you played than the sound of the guitar.
Try this, play 1 verse of soloing in the morning, one in the afternoon, one in the evening. One after drinking beer, one after drinking tequila, one after using your favorite recreational drug (if any). One after a week of no sex, one after a week of steady sex (if any). Adjust to your own personal circumstances and taste.
Then let us compare! (Don’t tell us which is which until the votes have come in.) Dang, I love this board.
PS Would you mind telling us what guitar gear you used for those sounds? Not specifically which sound was made how, but just an overview of your axe/rack/stack/pedalboard.
