Little-known brands you're fiercely loyal to

Check your local $.99 Store. I always find it there.

I don’t know how little well known they are. But, I imagine as little known as the Tom products, because that was my other answer.

Clif Bars are my very favorite energy bar. When I take a hike it’s an awesome product that will give me a ton of energy. Plus, very tasty. They are also great for long drives when I start to get a bit tired I eat a clif bar and feel good for another 48 hours of driving. Easy. I guess they aren’t really energy bars in the Red Bull sense of the word energy, but they are tasty snacks that give me a jump when a quick snack is needed.

Charlie’s Soap, for both laundry powder and their other cleaner. I don’t use it for everything, but there’s nothing like it.

FordPrefect, my husband also likes Veritas for tools. And Lie-Nielson.

I’ve always preferred Zatarain’s for my Cajun/Creole spices & ingredients, but it may be less obscure than Tony Chachere’s.

Golden Fleece kitchen scrubby-pads.

I hate visiting someone else’s house and when it’s my turn to wash dishes they’ve got one of those useless balls of nylon thread. The Scotch-Brite things are a little better but still nowhere near as nice.

Hand-Wrap. What the heck ever happened to Handi-Wrap? That stuff would actually stick to whatever you wrapped it around. Far better than this “Saran Wrap” or “Glad Wrap” stuff that’s all I can find in our local stores. I can’t even Google up a good picture to link to! Did they go out of business or something?

Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day products. Nothing in the universe smells as good as them.

Are Sunbeam and Bon-Ami little-known?

I’d be surprised if anyone’s heard of Bont skating boots. I’m pretty loyal.

That stuff is great, especially the almond and tea tree kinds. As an update to the ‘classic’ column- The self-proclaimed ‘doctor’ has died and his sons (and grandchildren) have taken over. Sort of odd folk, but nice. All fair trade ingredients, bottles made from recycled materials, and a huge chunk of profits go to charity. And despite the odd labels, they’re not religious crazies!

Last weekend the St. George, Utah Marathon was held and Clif Bars was a major sponsor. It was the first time I’d ever heard of them, then I saw your post.

Two times in a week for a product I’d never heard of before. They must have hired a marketing department. I’ll have to give them a try.

My secret for all laundry stain removal is the little known Fels Naptha.
I’ve been told it used to be a household name, but none of the young whippersnappers I’ve recommended it to have ever heard of it.

Ironically, I was going to post the same about Sunbeam bread, but since it’s probably the biggest bread not backed by a big name I didn’t post it. Oddly enough I heard a lot more about the other Sunbeam brand due to some corporate scandal or other and it always reminded me of the bread.

La Tortilla Factory tortillas - whole wheat, 50 calories each, perfect size for tacos
Fage Greek yogurt
Kashi Go Lean waffles
Reach woven dental floss (the only kind that doesn’t kill my gums)
Eden cherry butter

Dude, Kashi everything is good:

the waffles
the crackers (mmm…great with Gruyere or sharp cheddar)
the breakfast cereal (especially GoLean Crunch)
the granola bars
…even their frozen dinners are excellent!

I thought this read Ellen Cherry Butter!

My contribution: Uncle Sam Cereal. I ate it by the ton throughout all my pregnancies and LOVE the stuff. Flax seeds sprinkled in among wheat flakes that look just like flattened wheat kernals. Keeps the expectant mommy extremely regular and tastes wonderful, if you love cereal-y tasting cereal.

Luzianne makes a Cajun spice sprinkle product that I recently started buying and enjoy very much.

And Foxy, I find Yardley Oatmeal Soap at Meijer, but I don’t think that chain has made it any further south than Kentucky.

I really like the brand Wolford for bras (also, shirts/skirts, other things). They’re very upscale, but I don’t think they’re super well known.

It’s amazing how many of the things mentioned in this thread I own and use regularly. Or have at least tried!

Charlie’s Soap
Dr. Bronner’s Soap
Veritas tools
Bon Ami
Yardley Oatmeal Soap
Tilley Hats
Tom’s Toothpaste
Fage Yogurt
Larabars
Clif Bars
Fels Naptha
And yes, Trunk, not only have I heard of Bont skating boots, but I own a pair.

The Vermont Country Store is a good, if expensive, source for odd old-fashioned products.

Indeed, any company that puts a no-holds-barred lifetime guarantee on their hats is good by me. Hell, they’ll even give you a brand new one half price if you manage to lose the thing in the first year of getting it.

Keen sandals
Blue Bottle coffee
Le Chatelain camembert cheese
Cafe Fanny granola
Cherry Blossom brand (Japanese) breads
Echigo Japanese beer
Mo’ Ono brand Portuguese sausage
As’ Do Mar Portuguese tuna in oil

I use it (I’m 26). But I use it 'cause my Grandma used it and that’s good enough for me! Took me forever to find someplace here that sells it though - I finally lucked out at Albertson’s.

I am loyal to Kashi and Tony Chachere’s as well, but I’m not too sure how obscure they are.

Savon de Luxe (with oatmeal) is my bar soap of choice. My favorite oatmeal is McCann’s, come to think of it.

Most of my instruments are 1930s-40s Bueschers and Conns, first quality brands at the time, which got gradually degraded in the manner OneCentStamp alluded to.

I occasionally wear Akubra hats, a big name in Australia but not at all here.

Otherwise I seem to be a regular mass-market fiend. Just within a few square yards I have Panasonic, Eddie Bauer, Polo, TDK, Planters, Timberland, Eveready, Samsung, Kleenex, Levenger, Dixon Ticonderoga…
