In South Carolina bars are only allowed to sell airline size bottles of liquor for use in their drinks. What is the reason for this law, how was it concieved and do any other states have this law?
The reason is to prevent bar patrons from being short-changed. It’s a bad law, and it is being considered for repeal.
Here’s an editorial which kind of sums up the situation.
When the law was passed, I think many people thought minibottles were preferable to the brown-bagging that went on a lot of places and would reduce public drunkenness/drunk driving. Of course, the real effect is that drinks in SC are strong as hell.
There is a similar law in North Dakota. Patrons are only allowed one ice cube in their glass at a time, in an attempt to curb the rash of frostbite cases that occur during the harsh winters.
I saw on TV that North Dakota wants to change its name to Dakota, so that more people will move there. This is probably the result of drinking too many of those small bottles. I suggest you merge with South Dakota and adopt the alligator as your state animal. Soon, you will have DisneyUniverse drawing in tourists.
