Little Lochdale is rolling over...Help!

When I discovered I was pregnant I started doing a bit of research and one of the things I looked up was SIDS. I was terrified that I was going to inadvertently kill my baby. After looking up several sites I found that the risk factors basically indicated to me that SIDS was caused by one of two things, either a genetic issue over which you have little to no control or being uneducated and poor. Apparently if you are a young, uneducated parent you are much more likely to have a child die of SIDS, which makes sense because you probably have much less earning potential than an older, better educated parent so you are less likely to be able to afford proper prenatal care, housing where mold is not an issue, a breast pump, etc. and are much more likely to be a smoker.

It almost seems like the term SIDS was made up to tell parents instead of, “There is an excellent likelihood that your personal habits and lack of education in how to care for your child killed your baby.” Obviously SIDS happens in every education level and economic class and often SIDS is the go-to to cover up for infanticide (the wiki article indicates somewhere between 5%-20% of all SIDS cases are actually murders) but it appears based on the risk factors alone that SIDS tends to be a much bigger problem for the poor and undereducated.

I’m reading it right now! Took the day off to hang with little L.
