"Living"-British Movie

This is a British independent film that really touched my heart. I’m not ashamed to say that the ending made me weep, and the movie had a lot of meaning to it. I highly recommend it!

Which online service did you watch it on, or did you see it in a theater?

Good question that I should have answered in my OP!

My SiL is an Academy voter, and it is the time of year where she screens a lot of movies. I get to see a number of movies that I might not otherwise see. The DVDs are watermarked specifically for each voter who receives them, which means that a voter could lose his or her standing if any of the DVDs watermarked for them were to get out into the public. As soon as the screening period is over and her votes are cast, she destroys them.

It’s in some theaters as well. A remake of Akira Kurosawa’s Ikiru.

Trailer:

Which I highly recommend to the OP and everyone else who hasn’t seen it. It’s from 1952, in black and white, and in Japanese with subtitles, but even with all those disadvantages (if you want to call them that) I will bet it is a better, more subtle and heartfelt film than the remake (which I have not seen, so this is only a bet not a conclusion).

That seems to be the critical consensus, a good film on its own, but not the masterpiece that Kurosawa created.

They still send out DVDs? I thought I heard about a streaming service that the academy set up to let members watch movies.

There is, it’s called, “The Academy Screening Room”, It’s available directly on line or, if you have a Roku which I do, you get extended streaming features via an App right in the Roku menu. Thing is, my SiL, besides being a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is also a voting member of the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and that’s where the DVDs come from. It was kind of confusing to me at first. LOL

As am I. For SAG-AFTRA you can designate that you don’t want the DVDs sent, as they also have streaming access.

I’ll tell my SiL, although she may already know. Using my disc player is a pain.
