I read an article the other day about Russian soldiers contracting anthrax after being ordered to dig defenses in soil where Ukrainians had buried diseased cows. I wonder if this is worse than being irradiated while bivouacked near the Chernobyl nuclear station… ![]()
Before I started college in 1979, I was waiting on tables in a 24/7 restaurant in Minneapolis. A South Asian gentleman would invariably come in around 05:00 to order a breakfast that included chicken “cooked very rare.” I couldn’t help wondering if this was healthy or not, and why he never got sick if it wasn’t.
I mean, you don’t get sick from raw chicken unless it’s contaminated with harmful bacteria. You can just get lucky lots of times and not ever get sick even if you eat intrinsically risky foods.
To me, chicken is the danger meat. I never eat underdone chicken, while I cheerfully eat rare steak. Hamburger? Medium rare.
