Local community action resolves petty theft incident.

How about this then:

My 11YO daughter’s razor scooter was stolen from the front entrance of the local church on Friday evening, while she was in choir practice - she returned home quite upset about it. I went out and drove around the neighbourhood, hoping to spot whoever had it, but turned up nothing.

We couldn’t really afford to replace the item, so on Saturday morning, I printed up a few hundred little flyers (1/6 of a sheet of A4) describing the item (it has her name engraved under the base) and the circumstances of its disappearance, asking anyone to call me if they found it or saw it anywhere. The four of us walked around the residential roads (in the cold and rain) near the church and posted the flyers through every door.

I didn’t really expect it to work, but I thought it was at least worth a try. About an hour after returning home, we got a phone call - someone had found it hidden behind the bottle bank in the car park - by the time we got there to collect it, he had also washed and polished it so it was almost like new again. Needless to say, my daughter was very pleased and grateful (and is now just a little less trusting about where she leaves things).

Awww, lovely!

Can you get some sort of lock for the scooter so it doesn’t get stolen again?

I think we’ll just find somewhere else to stash it, that isn’t quite so accessible - the foyer of the church is also a small public library and internet cafe, so it doesn’t impose a sense of being off limits for casual passers-by.

Nice one.

Good result all around. Makes us older ones a little less cynical, and makes the young ones a little moreso. What’s not to love about that? Good result.
