Well I was only applying it to her, so not really.
AIUI piepiepie was pointing out some elements of the “black experience” that Dolezal has missed. I don’t think it’s supposed to be an exhaustive list.
I do think her post is a little poorly worded, though.
She converted.
That’s what I thought, but it was just a touch generalized.
My white in-laws, who are from the south, would be a bit surprised to know that greens are specifically Black American.
(I think it’s a bit of shame the current generation from that family have no interest in their heritage foods like pokeweed, but I can understand why they took a pass on some of the small-game stews and soups - a lot of effort for not much meat)
But yes, you are correct that chitterlings are traditionally black, as are certain ways of preparing greens and other foods. I’ll stop nitpicking now, because I don’t want to start an argument or seem disrespectful. I assume some of those traditional dishes were a result of owners giving unwanted bits and scraps to slaves and thus they do tie in very closely with black American history in multiple ways with a lot of emotional aspects to the cuisine.
The slaves cared for and butchered the hog, and ate the unwanted parts. I wonder about ribs, were they eaten by the slave owners?
I think many White Southerners began eating “slave food” after the Civil War, and Sherman’s retreat to the sea.
Or the black guy I was sitting next to on the train the other day. In the space of less than 10 minutes he used the term at least a dozen times.
Former NAACP official Dolezal has violated ethics rules - Spokane lawmaker
Makes you wonder if this is some piling on, or if these are just attracting more attention because of the other stories.
At some point she either needs to give up or the rest of us have to give up on following the story.
Adrian Miller’s book Soul Food covers this - great read, and some good recipes as well: Soul Food (Paperback) - Adrian E. Miller
[sorry to participate in the hijack - but I am another white guy who didn’t understand the fried chicken and watermelon stereotype - those meant Sunday dinner!]
And the hits just keep on coming …
Yep, she’s a nut.
The acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree, and neither does the nut.

Thing is, if trans-racialism does turn out to be a thing, this woman has just set that cause back a long ways. People will point to her if there is ever a legitimate case.
Ms. Dolezal wants to be on reality TV? Albertsons should start her & her son off with Judge Judy for the cost of that wine!
Well, if there’s one thing she’s learned it’s that he hates these cans, stay away from the cans.
Makes you wonder if all black people are just playing pretend.
Really tangental, but last night I watched the start of “First Peoples” (Limited PBS series) and their main thesis seems to be that the evolution of humans is far more complex than we’d thought in the past, and that species were not at distinct as the textbooks of my day had it.
In particular, in the second episode they displayed theories that “modern” humans actually evolved several times, in several distinct regions of Africa, and that likely these, what, ‘proto’ species encountered each other, traded, and no doubt interbred, making them all ancestral species to all modern humans.
Interesting factoid, apparently the current rule of thumb is that most recent common ancestor of what are now two species must have been over a million years ago or else the species are quite likely to still be able to interbreed and have fertile offspring.
(I don’t think anyone is surprised that sex would happen – Isn’t it known that humans will fuck anything that won’t kill or escape from them? – but that fertile children could result was new.)
Anyway, near the very end of that episode they showed some evidence that some Neanderthals that were being driven south by the encroaching Ice Age reached what is now Israel … where they ran into “modern” humans who were spreading out from Africa. And they interbred, too.
Anyhoo… a long lead up to the fact that today’s humans of European and Asian descent have far more Neanderthal derived genes than today’s humans whose ancestors remained in Africa all along.
So, does this mean that those who think whites are superior to blacks ought to start wearing “Neanderthals Rule” t-shirts?
At some point, will people (who are white and consider themselves black) be given “racial assignment” surgery? This to include: extra suntanning sessions, skin dyes, hair kinking, etc.? Kinda like gender reassignment.
