Does anyone know – have they picked the cities yet for the 2003, 2004, and 2005 G8 Summits? If not, any idea what the leading contenders are? And is it likely that Russia will be added to the rotation?
It appears from this May 2001 article that announcements are made at the previous year’s summit.
**This timing is about what I remember from the 1990 summit, when Houston and San Antonio were known to be jockeying for the honors, but SA didn’t have enough hotel rooms. Seems silly in light of what Chretien’s doing next year.
I wouldn’t have thought Russia would be accorded full G8 status by getting to host the summit, but read
this 1998 speculation about the possibility of Russia hosting the summit in 2000.
The next one is not going to be in Ottawa, but in Kananaskis Park in the Canadian Rockies. They chose the more remote location in an attempt to avoid large-scale protests. The meeting will start June 26, 2002.
