Weirdave, however annoying Mockingbird might be, your sneer at him is an attack on all gay people. You know me and that I am masculine and as un-flamer as can be, but I am openly and proudly gay and resent attacks on men who do flame. My non-flaming makes me no better than more sparkly guys, just different. Being flamboyantly gay is fine and not “amusing” or “distasteful”–it’s just one hue of the spectrum of human behavior.
You want to go after Mockingbird for being a whiny jackass, fine; I agree with you. Attack him for being gayer than you think proper and and then we’ll have to tangle (and not in the good way).
I think the LCRs have always felt isolated. Why they do not defect and join the LP — a party that officially advocates full and unequivocal gay rights — is a mystery.
I think this is more about a chance for credibility as an organization. Up til now, the LCR has been perceived as somewhat passive and compromise-oriented. This could simply be an attempt to give themselves a harder edge, make their organization look like more than a weak branch of the Republican party. Plus, y’know, the whole overturning an unjust and nasty little law that has ruined many lives since its implementation.
But that’s not very cynical, so of course that can’t be a reason.
Sorry, but being a flaming queen can appear both amusing and distasteful – whether you like it or not. And frankly, it’s really not up to you to decide how others feel about it – just as it’s not up to us to regulate its flamboyancy.
And really the only thing more annoying is a holier-than-thou queer. It’s oddly (and ironically) so similar to the religious right it’s scary…
Yes and last I checked, party platforms were hardly universal in their application. Lord knows the Democratic candidates here in Northern Kentucky aren’t exactly sticking close to their stated party planks.
It’s one of the things that makes the USA so interesting to live in: lack of central party control over their own politicians.
That wasn’t even close to any kind of an attack on Mockingbird, the target of my ire in that post is (pretty clearly) the religious right. I said Mockingbird could flame at them-that such an action would make them uncomfortable because they are so irrational about the issue, and they deserve to be unconfortable. It had nothing to do with Mockingbird, I would have suggested the same to you, gobear, if you had made the post, or any other gay man. With a lesbian I might have suggested that she kiss another woman in from of them and watch the RR cringe. The only way I can see my post being taken as an insult to gay people is if you think I am insuinating that there is something wrong with being flaming. What the hell is wrong with that? What’s wrong (and I don’t think I could be any clearer in my stance on this, I’ve repeated it over and over on these boards) is the attitude of the RR. If a little harmless mincing, prancing and flamboyance makes them uncomfortable, I say go for it. I myself have made kissy faces at some of these idiots before, just to enjoy their reaction, and I’m not even gay.
OK, my bad. I know you’re cool with the gay thing, so that comment just threw me for a loop. I apologize for jumping on you unfairly. (Mind, I’d jump on you just for recreation, but I think Corinne would object.)
Think Clevon Little in Blazing Saddles to the KKK guys- “Hey! Where are all the white women at?” That’s how I was suggesting Mockingbird act towards these sexual bigots.
You are a contemptible piece of vermin. That you come to my “defense” in your half assed manner revolts me.
You have no consistency and vaccilate from pseudo-reasonable to psychotically shrill with a speed that would make the late Sybil astounded. You parrot a party line about me that has nothing to do with reality and everything to do with the fact that people cannot recognize on this board when someone changes.
When you say jackass next, be looking in the mirror. You are the first to turn against a fellow gay doper in any thread and will criticize them, posing yourself as the voice of reason and thus the person to listen to.
Your “defense” of me is not only unwanted, it is disgusting, debasing, and insulting.
Now, are you too stupid to realize that this little snipe has absolutely nothing to do with the topic under discussion, or are you just being a sniping little fuckwit who can’t let even the tiniest chance to take a shot at Bill Clinton go by?
Truly a question for the ages, but either way, you’re a complete and utter waste of skin.
Not that it makes the slightest bit of difference, but there were lawsuits seeking to strike down DADT filed and decided while Clinton was in office. The LCR believes the new suit stands a better chance of success because of SCOYUS decisions in Romer v Evans and Lawrence v Texas.
I agree that the timing of the filing here is strange and it probably wouldn’t have hurt anyone for LCR to delay the filing for three weeks. Assholish comments about “justice delayed” notwithstanding.
Everytime one of the “holier-than-thou” folks mislabel and misappropriate homophobia it sets back the important stuff more than you can probably understand (regardless of your sexuality).
