Logic and reasoning about doing my laundry

I have two washers and two dryers in my apartment building and they sit side by side, meaning there are two dryers (D1, D2)and then two washers(W1, W2) arranged from left to right as so…D1, D2, W1, W2. I usually do two loads at a time and my qurey comes when it comes time to throw the cloths into the dryers.

Would it be easier to load the clothes from W1 to D1 and the clothes from W2 to D2 so I would have an equal distance to carry the clothes for both loads? Or would it me advantageous to go from W1 to D2 and then W2 to D1 so I would have a short trip and a long trip?

Don’t forget the trip from the first dryer to the second washer.

Not sure how that got submitted…

Anyway, assuming the machines are equally spaced with a distance z, the first option gives you a total distance of 7z, while the second gives you a total distance of 6z. Assuming these are about 2 feet apart, it’s pretty inconsequential, don’t you think?

I have a curious mind, I’m not trying to save the world.

But if you go W2 D2, then W1, D1 you only go a distance of 5z. Also, if D1 is closer to where you go to wait for the dryers to be done, you’ve saved yourself some more walking.
