Logic Puzzles : I can't do them.

You know, boolean equations make sense to me. I can do them forwards, backwards, probably even sideways. They are my gift in life.

But, I can’t solve a simple logic puzzle.

I’m kinda reknowned as the resident “Smart Guy” here at work. Usually once or twice a week, someone will give me a puzzle of some sort to solve. A riddle, a problem. No sweat, I eat that stuff for breakfast.

Today, I got my first Logic Puzzle.

So, in order to save face, I’m posting what I was sent here, hoping that one of you Big Brains can solve it for me, and let me know the answer. In the meantime, I’m gonna buy a book, and try to learn how to do this stuff.

Perhaps, if I can reply to the guy who sent it to me with enough bravado and boisterousness, he won’t never send me no more.

Thank you for your support.

Puzzle Follows:

Albert Einstein wrote this quiz in then last century. He said that 98% of
the people in the world cannot solve the quiz.

FACTS:

  1. There are five houses in five different colors.
  2. In each house lives a person with a different nationality.
  3. These five owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand
of cigarettes, and keep a certain type of pet.
  4. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigarettes or drink
    the same drink.
Here’s the question: Who owns the fish?

Hints:

  1. The Brit lives in a red house.
  2. The Swede keeps the dogs as pets.
  3. The Dane drinks tea.
  4. The green house is on the left of the white house.
  5. The owner of the green house drinks coffee.
  6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
  7. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
  8. The man living in the house right in the center drinks milk.
  9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
  10. The man who smokes Blend lives next to the one who keeps cats.
  11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
  12. The owner who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
  13. The German smokes Prince.
  14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
  15. The man who smokes blend has a neighbor who drinks beer.

For the record, I don’t care if Albert Einstein wrote this or not. I just need to know what the answer is

there you will find the puzzle, and an efficient way to go about completing it.

automatically parse, my ass.

Thanks, Kilgore, but I’d prefer not to parse your ass.

You use far too many semi-colons.
I can’t believe I just said that.

Thank you kindly, Kilgore. I owe you big on this

I knew this puzzle sounded familiar! I posted this same one for the Teeming Millions a couple of months ago.

Check out the Mind Exercise thread if you want to see some of the other Doper’s replies.
