We use our HOA pool quite often during the summer and it’s not unusual to head over there in the morning and have to play clean-up. Apparently, people think it’s ok to just leave their broken pool toys, clothing, shoes, empty drink containers, etc EVERYFREAKINGWHERE. There are two smaller trashcans on the edges of the pool and two really big ones in the alcove next to the bathrooms for a reason people!
One day I went down there and found a half sandwich in a baggie stuck in the water filter bucket next to a coke can which I can only pray was empty BEFORE it got into the filter bucket.
We have to pay bin charges here. Your recycling bin is free (or very cheap) and you pay by weight for rubbish. People who don’t want to pay have come up with some creative ways to get rid of their rubbish for free. Usually they carry a bag around with them and pop bits and pieces in public bins as they’re passing. The local park has removed their bins due to the amount of domestic rubbish being put in the bins and there are signs telling people to take their refuse home.
I’ve seen one woman surreptitiously (or so she thinks) tossing things over hedges into fields as she’s out walking.
I’ve had someone else dump their rubbish in my bin when it’s out at the front gate - Usually after the bins have been emptied. One afternoon I found someone’s rubbish in my recycling bin- cigarette butts and what have you, obviously someone decided to clean out their car as they were passing…
On another occasion a disposable nappy had been put in the bin - which wasn’t even out at the gate at the time, they came round the back of the house [while I was out].
I have a happy ending story. Many years ago my husband and I were traveling by car in Germany. There was a small railroad crossing with a manually-operated gate. Very cute and rustic. An actual guy in a booth who closed the gate when a train was coming and raised it afterwards. Someone in the car in front of us tossed paper out the window. The guy in the booth refused to open the gate until the offender got out of the car and retrieved his trash.
I live on a cul-de-sac, the last house on my side of the street. At the very end of the cul-de-sac there isn’t a house- it’s a wooded area with a little brook that runs past my side yard, then past the side yard of the house across the street.
One spring night I heard a car drive into the circle- noticeable, because hardly anyone ever drives in except us and the guy across the street- then I heard it stop, the door open, the “ding-ding-ding-ding” of the key in the ignition and door open, then “SMASH!”. I looked out to see a guy hop back in and drive away.
The next day I went to investigate. I walked into the wooded area right past where his car was parked, and saw it- a 21" CRT computer monitor, glass smashed, leaning up against the base of a tree. The fucker had just tossed it out his trunk, where it rolled down the hill and hit the tree.
I think the worst two I’ve seen are fairly common - the bag of fast food garbage just dumped out of the car window at a stoplight in the middle of a city, and disposable diapers in various places (parking lots, along paths, etc.). The diaper one really gets me - seriously? You think this is where that goes?
Oh yeah, my other constant peeve - the cigarette butts thrown on my front lawn. It gets awfully dry out there at various times of the year, so people are basically throwing burning embers on my dry tinder. I really, REALLY wish they would stop doing that. If they throw it the other way, it will at least be in the gutter of the street, and not likely to burn my house down.
