Long-lost foods you have loved

They were discontinued!? :frowning:

That just ruined my day, I’ve been trying to find tem for a while and figured my local purveyor of snack-food just decided to stop carrying them likke he does everything else I develop a liking for. Those were probably some of the best chips out there…though I had the problem of taking out an entire bag in one sitting as well.

I’m convinced that French’s used to make Sweet 'n Sour Sauce—they made other varieties as well under the name Dip’ums or something silly like that. I loved the stuff and when I emailed Hometown Favorites (www.hometownfavorites.com) they wound up telling me that French’s said they never sold any such thing. It was in a bottle about the same size/shape as a soy sauce bottle and had a green screw top. Anyone else remember it?

I miss the real Tato Skins too. There was also a Little Debbie-type cake in the late 80s that was called, I think, Choco-Bliss. Two layers of chocolate cake with frosting and thick, fluffy chocolate mousse filling. Mmmmm.

Another vote for Carnation Breakfast Bars, Space Food sticks, and Marathons.

Does anyone remember Summit bars? They came out the same time as Twix. They were two bars, just like Twix, except much lighter and crispier.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I thought my store was just out of the applewood BBQ Bistro Chips! Maybe they had to discontinue them because they are so darn addictive!

Lik 'Em stix are still around, and a thread a few years back had a source for space food sticks. I am clinging to hope after GingeroftheNorth’s post that she just bought some Pudding Pops…I will find them!

I can’t remember if it’s Dannon or another brand, but they had a line of flavored yogurts with topping in a separate section…the Bavarian Cream with raspberry topping is wonderful, but the one they discontinued…the one I can still taste, late at night, was a Key Lime with a chocolate mint topping…oh my. The first time I tried it, I wasn’t overly fond of it, but the next day I had to have another one, and it was all over. I was hooked. Within a month it was gone, discontinued. For at least a year I would peer into the dairy case, move around the other yogurts just in case there was one hiding at the back… But they were displayed in their own little rack, and they took the bar code off…I knew it was all over. I don’t even look anymore. Sigh.

Yup. Looks like they were replaced by the ‘Natural’ line of Lay’s products. When the snack bar guy first told me, I thought he just meant the small bags they carry up there, but within a couple months the large bags were all gone from the grocery stores in my area and replaced with other stuff.

Sucks, don’t it :frowning:

Lick 'M Aid, I believe. I ate these like…well, like candy, when I was 8 or 9. These are now made by Wonka and are called Fun Dip.
Also, back to the Marathon bar. I loved these whn I was a kid, because I was crazy for caramel ,and this was by far the best candy-caramel available. My 8-year-old loves caramel as well, and she listened wide-eyed as I extolled the marvels of Marathon bars, and she nearly wept when I sadly told her they were no longer available.

O’Bosies !

Tejano chili … a local brand to my hometown, when we heard they were closing up shop, we bought out the last of their stock.

Caramel M&Ms

Tostios Lime and Chili - tortilla chips. They do that “hint of lime” crap now.

Ice cream cakes - no idea what the brand was. Mom would by this boxed stuff at pic-n-save, we’d add water, pop it in the freezer a couple of hours, and viola! Ice cream cake.

Village Inn Restaurants Enchiladas and Super Nachos when I moved from Texas about 10 years ago I went through withdrawls. Found one VI in Tampa? And the menu had changed.

Burger King Tacos I REALLY missed those when I got pregnant.

GingeroftheNorth, what exactly did you buy? I have just cruised the Jello website, and there are no Pudding Pops, which are frozen pudding on a stick…like a fudgesicle. They make Pudding Bites- icky little rubbery candies, Pudding Snack- pre-made pudding in a cup, and Pudding Sticks-tubes of pre-made pudding, but no frozen Pudding Pops! Why did you tease us like that!!!

Shirley, here is a place where you can get Grape Bubble Yum

You’re right! Mint-Chocolate has been my favorite flavor combination for many years, and I loved those things. Thankfully, M&Ms sells Mint M&Ms every year at Christmas now… I usually stock up around then.

I too bought Pudding Pops within the past few weeks. I bought them at Food Source. They are in a yellow box and in my store were near all the ice cream novelties like the Push -Ups, etc.
I like Reality Chuck miss the fizzy goodness of Zotz but now I have hope that I can get some.

And like Hyperelastic miss the clear goodness of Crystal Pepsi.

Ah, there they are. This explains why they are not listed on the Jello website. Now let me just add these to Friday’s shopping list…

I used to eat a variation of this whenever I could…

Take a bowl of milk, soak the Shredded Wheat in it
Put on plate and place butter on top
Microwave until butter is melted
Then top with Cinnamon and Sugar.

God… I could use one of those! I think they still sell those bug Shredded Wheat Bales, right?? They were in a yellow box.
Also, I remember **Chicken Little’s ** from Kentucky Fried Chicken. Oh, man- so good! They were little mini chicken sandwiches- just chicken and mayo.

If it is a Canadian chocolate bar, the only two that I know of are Aero and Mirage.

Check them out here, they are made by Nestle Canada. Mirage bars are best when you put them in the freezer for an hour or two before eating.

Anyone here remember Grape Bonkers? Or Roller Coasters, an revolting, but addictive canned pasta and sauce combo made by Chef Boyardee? (I think)

I miss my Jell-O Pudding Pops :frowning:

Another vote here for Josta cola.

Kind of an obscure favorite, but my wife and I love the hard-to-find Maggi Two-Minit Curry ramen noodles. (Yes, the spelling is correct.) Also the curry wing sauce that they served at the BW3 chain of restaurants here in the mid-West.

I also miss the Super Chef burgers that they served at Burger Chef.

Lik-Am-Aid. Or something like that. Also known as “fun dip”. My friend and I used to walk down to the pharmacy practically every day because they still sold penny candy and you could get those for ten cents.

Chicken sesame flavored ramen. It was chicken flavored, but came with an extra little packet of sesame oil. Quite good.

And while they haven’t QUITE disappeared, Ol Me-hi-Co tortilla chips (or something like that). Produced by Reyna foods here in Pittsburgh. You used to be able to buy them at the local supermarkets, but now they’re only available at Reyna down in the Strip. So it isn’t exactly practical to go to the Strip every time I want them. They’re super light and crispy and they’re made with peanut oil.

Kool-Aid: Sunshine Punch and Rainbow Punch. Especially the first. It was sooo yummy, like orange, but a sort of blend of orange and maybe lemon or something. It was absolutely delicious.

Corn Diggers… aren’t those kinda like Bugles? Little cone-shaped salty corn goodness? Tasty.

I thought I was the only one pining away for BucWheats. I lament their loss every time I enter the cereal aisle. To the point where now, my husband and kid mockingly start wailing the liturgy before I do: “I wish they still made BucWheats… those were the best! Soooooooo good!”

Also, Garden Flavor Top Ramen. You would think a garden would be flavored of dirt, but no, an enchanting celery-esque taste. Heavenly. Came in a pale aqua wrapper.

Ummmm…O’Boises. And Keebler use to make a butter-flavored pretzel that was great.

I miss Nestle triple decker bars, which were test marketed in Boston when I was a child. A layer of dark chocolate, a layer of white chocolate and a layer of milk chocolate in one bar.

I’m sorry to hear about the Applewood chips. When I was really, really sick in April 2002, little old I-don’t-like-any-type-of-spicy-food lived on those for a week. I don’t know why, but they tasted good to me then.
