PE teachers today, even the good ones, always have to deal with this stereotype. Which BTW, has not gone away only pushed under and hidden since PE teachers actually get most of their money from the teams or players they coach. Their are PE teachers who pull over half their money running clinics and giving private coaching. Also being a winning coach also looks good on your resume.
I just had a flashback to 7th grade PE class when I had – long story short – a big open scrape injury on my neck and got a doctor’s note to sit out of PE because I wasn’t supposed to get sweat in the wound. When I showed the teacher the note, she scoffed and said, “Like you do enough to sweat.” I spoke up (this was rare for me) and pointed out it was June and we were playing kickball outside – I didn’t have to do anything to sweat and I’d sweat anyway – and she let me sit out.
God I HAAAATED gym class. To this day, I hate playing any kind of competitive sport because of so many bad memories. The only gym teacher I ever liked was the man who taught it from 3rd-4th grades: he was funny and nice to everybody.
