Damn you, madrabbitwoman! I was going to say 6 months - the amount of time I spent in Perth studying abroad - but you beat me too it.
Oh well. My answer is still 6 months.
I use cash for every private purchase under 100 euros or so; I use my bank’s internet system to pay the mortgage and utilities etc. This means I pretty much carry about 200 euros in cash at any time.
I use my credit cards for gas and groceries and store purchases for the home (at Home Depot and Sams). I use online banking to handle all of my bills (except the damned Athens/Clarke County Water bill). Cash for everything else. I usually take out about $200 and use that for about two weeks or so.
I think Witty means in the sense of knowing how much you’ve had to drink, rather than bars adding charges or stealing credit card info. It’s easier for some people when you have to stop and pay for each drink rather then just run up a tab.
For me, I haven’t paid for anything (including that cup of coffee, sorry Audrey!) in cash for about 3 months now.
