look honey, it's SOFA-HENGE

Just saw this on Channel 5 KTLA morning show. A few artists got together in LA, cruised around picking up old sofas discarded in alleys and on the street, and built a mini Stonehenge from them.
The TV pic was not the best, but it still looked damn cool.

Any LA/Hollywood/Valley dopers in the vicinity of Lankershim and Magnolia might wanna check it out. If you go, take some pics and be sure to post them here.

It’s almost worth the 2 hour drive from Palm Springs. Naw, not really.

hm…i should do that sometime.

that would be cool.

WTF? I went down there today. I found an empty lot with a fence around it. On the fence were four pieces of paper spelling out S-O-F-A, and another paper with a cyrillic(?) letter that I suppose was an E. But no sofas. No sofa detritus, either.

I went across the street to Actor’s Alley, El Portal or whatever you’re supposed to call that theater, where the lot can be seen from the lobby. Guy who answered the door said yes, there’d been a Sofahenge there the day before, no, he didn’t know what had happened to it, no, he didn’t know who’d put it up.

Perhaps it was an April Fool’s Day stunt. Or perhaps the artists didn’t have permission to use the lot.

I don’t live too far out from there, but I was in no shape to be going out. I would have liked to have seen that.
