A one finger typist gets voice recognition software.
I picked up a copy of Dragon NaturallySpeaking yesterday.
Until now typing in posts has been more trouble than my ideas have been worth.
Now that my computer is doing the typing for me I will shed my lurker status.
I’m not saying that my thoughts are going to be worth reading, but I’m going to inflict them on you anyway.
Right now both the software and I are in a learning process, and I don’t know who is learning faster.
The hardest thing is learning to speak slowly and clearly and not mumble.
They say the software can do 160 words per minute, I’m not sure I can think that fast.
I will say that my proofreading skills are going to improve because up till now the software has been making some outrageous typos and I spend more time backspacing and correcting than going forward.
Till next time.
Peace.

Let us know how you like the new software. I saw it demonstrated in London in 1998 at an information conference. I was impressed. But not enough to check it out myself.
Hello Violet.
I can tell you right now that I love it.
It just takes some getting used too.
What makes it so great is that it is not just for word processing but can also control other programs on the computer.
For example I have not touched the mouse or keyboard more than once or twice since I installed software, surfing the Web by giving VoiceCommands.
Been able to check my e-mail just by saying the words start plus mail, starting various programs on my computer just by saying the words start plus the name of the program.
In my humble opinion the software is cheap at twice the retail price and well worth the time , money and effort to get working right.
And if you’re as lazy as I am the software is a godsend.
Peace.

Interesting. Formatting must be a bit tricky. It appears to be giving you a carriage return at the end of every sentence.
Forge ahead!
will you be able to do silly accents?
Interesting! Looks like it could help prevent that carpal tunnel condition.
Used it before too, adored it!
Unfortunatly it took a little too much power for my puter, so everything ran really sluggishly while I used it. Can’t wait to get a much better computer so it will run again
LIONsob, be sure to read to it often eh? It will teach it to recognise you better. I read to mine an hour a day for two weeks (more or less) and was getting up to some serious speeds in word processing after that.
Hello Ringo/beetle
I would not totally blamed the funky formatting on the software, some of it is the operator not knowing what he’s doing.
Rocking chair.
Yes, but only if you count East Texan as an accent.
Violet.
I don’t know about carpal tunnel syndrome, but I know that after spending 8 to 10 hours a night throwing roles of paper around that weight up to 100 pounds my shoulders arms and hands don’t feel good and then coming home and spending couple hours on the computer isn’t doing me any favors.
Besides I believe that voice control is going to be the next level in interfacing humans and computers.
Peace.
LIONsob.
Iteki
thanks for the tip, will make a point of reading to the program everyday.
Luckily I just built this computer about three months ago and it is almost state-of-the-art.
Was not ignoring you, but I had to walk away from the computer for about an hour between the time I opened this thread and I posted my reply and I forgot to refresh the page to see if it had been updated.
Peace

Am I the only person who opened this thread and was enormously relieved not to see “DORRANCE #5 STAINLESS STEEL HOOKS” in the OP?
